called in here on a freezing wet Thursday afternoon and bought two warm drinks a Lemon Ginger, and a Blood something or other. Very friendly, warming and charming. We will return!

If, for some bizarre reason, you ever find yourself in Rawtenstall, I recommend you visit Fitzpatricks for two reasons. 1. It looks like it’s the only place open in the town centre as everything else is boarded up; 2. The Blood Tonic is delicious.

This is the only herbalists left in the country I think! has been there for many, many years and sell the best blood tonic money can buy! It feels as though you are in another time zone when you go in. It has the original features with olde worlde furniture and décor.
Lots of other herbal remedies are sold and I know lots of people who purchase their special tonics, all older people mind, but maybe that’s what is keeping them young. Who knows? So I think everyone should make an effort and visit for the good of their own health :).

This place really is magical! Not the sort of bar you would find unless you were looking for it specifically.
The day we visited, there were two huge bikes outside and a couple of real bikers — beards, leathers, grease and oil — sitting inside drinking sarsasparilla and blood tonics.
I’d recommend any of the cordials — we bought a few to take home and have used them as hot drinks, with soda water and as icecream floats — delicious!
The shop itself doesn’t look to have changed since it was first set up. Fantastic wooden pew-type benches, ancient soda syphons, antique counter and display material — everything is just so wonderful.
Having said all that, one gets very quickly bored and we left to find a pub! (At that time there wasn’t one in Rawtenstall that served real ale!)

It’s not the kind of place you’ll stumble across (a small bar in a small town) but if you are somewhere close it is worth popping in!
A great old fashioned temperance bar that sells a wide range of drinks to try, including sasparilla, dandelion and burdoch, and cream soda. You can buy drinks to have in the bar, or bottles of the cordial to take away with you and enjoy in the comfort of your own. They also sell all kinds of sweets and other herbal products.
My personnal recomendation would be to have a dandelion and burdoch ice cream float. It was gorgeous, and I bought some of the cordial so I can try it again later!
