The Charters has recently undergone a revival after undertaking a full refit and new management. It seemed to be a bit expensive when we last went in but there was real ale on draft which is always a good thing. Plenty of comfortable seating and a real mix of clientele.

The Mason Arms is the picturesque white pub situated on Thorpe Street in the delightful, old pit village of Thorpe Hesley, five miles from Rotherham town centre. Although the pub can get quite crowded, it retains the old charm of an English country pub. Locals and passers by from the nearby garden centre can enjoy the fine selection of beers and spirits on offer as well as the delicious lunch or evening money. The meals are great value for money as in addition to the menu using fresh, home cooked products, the portion sizes are very generous. Outside seating provides an opportunity to sit and watch the world go by.
