I’m pretty much a vegan these days. It’s a good way to avoid rubbish in your diet and it’s much cheaper and healthier for you. What do I miss most? I can give or take bacon. For me it’s jelly sweets that I yearn for. Also most of them are full of pig bones. Even Halal Haribo ones use sheep gelatine, so that’s not even an option. So when a chalk board with the words ‘Vegan Sweets!’ points me down a side street I’m inclined to follow, with a skip in my step and a watering mouth. After a minute, we’re there. They have retro and classic sweets sold by the quarter(or metric equivalent), are marked with codes according to whether you’d like/need vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, sugar free/any other options. I managed to find my favourite Au’some 3-D Fruit Snack Gummies Jungle Buddies, which are full of fruit and have a lovely taste and ‘give’ on the teeth. I pick up some carob bars for a friend. The shop staff question this. ‘Are you buying this because you LIKE it?’ ‘Er.no’ I replied. So they advise a more tasty alternative in the form of Concious brand raw organic chocolate. Flavoured with essential oils these are tasty bars of karma-inducing well-being. This is chocolate of the highest order and even if you aren’t a vegan, I’d seek it out just for it’s taste alone. You can enjoy it on it’s own or in a luxurious coffee or hot milk drink. With lots of choice and free samples go to FAt Moo Moo for good confectionery that is worth spending money on
