After reading the reviews(Trip Advisor — around 90 very positive reviews) I thought Kai’s deserved a listing on Unilocal! Probably best known to the locals as a basic Café, Kai’s transforms into a genuine Thai ‘restaurant’ at the weekend. Our first visit(on a very busy Friday night) confirmed the charming service from the Thai waitresses. We had booked in advance but there were plenty of ‘walk-ins’ and by 8;30 the place was pretty much full. The menu is comprehensive however the quality of the food is top-notch. Having never been to Thailand I can’t claim it’s the ‘best Thai food ever outside of Thailand’ but we enjoyed everything ordered. I’ve scored this a 4 mainly because it was apparent that they were struggling to cope with the volume of orders and trying to deal with takeaway orders at the same time as a full dining room on a Friday is probably a mistake. One minor quibble — get the air-con fixed — it was HOT and the portable unit isn’t up to the job :-) NB no alcohol licence so ‘BYO’.
