Duke Of York

This is, in my opinion, one of the best pubs in Saffron Walden. Whether you are after a quiet midweek drink after work, a great pub lunch, to catch the match on Sky or indeed any channel or have a great night out with your mates then come and see Ian or Sarah (Landlord and Landlady) and you will have a great time.
They have a wide variety of lager and bitter on tap along with a huge selection of spirits and soft drinks. There is a small private car-​park at the rear of the pub and small beer garden with several picnic type tables/​benches.
This is quite a sporty pub and regularly has a football or rugby match showing on one of several screens in the bar and the bar staff are usually quite accommodating if there is a particular event that people want to watch so long as it doesn’t clash with a major fixture. But I have seen Football, Rugby, Tennis, Olympic events and loads of other sports over the years that I called this pub ‘my local’.
The Duke also does a great lunchtime menu — which I’d describe as good, traditional pub grub — and serves a variety of food from sandwiches and baguettes to burgers, scampi and lasagne.
The bar staff are always friendly and professional and if they can help — they will.
