From the time I ordered a tuna and sweet corn baked potato until it was in front of me, in a Perspex container, was well under a minute. I think it was just under £5 for the filled potato. The potato was properly cooked, huge and had a large portion of the filling. Salt, pepper and a knife & fork were all on the tray without my having to ask. I was offered coleslaw, which I declined, but there was no mention by the server if this would have added to the cost — so probably a £4 mark up on the filled potato. The server did not have English as a first language and came across as surly but that may just be ethnicity. I tried and singly failed to persuade her to offer a different filling for the kids meal, as only two fillings are offered; either grated cheese or baked beans in a half potato. So good will and a future customer lost — rather a bizarre way to treat a customer who wants to give you money. I did note the intriguing sign advertising the kid meal. It said it was for kids accompanied by one or two parents so it seems if an adult asks for it without a child visible they may be refused until a kid is identified but this may be my usually over active(nearly said fertile) imagination.

Trips to the Lowry Outlet are either one of two things — depressing or good. It would need a hell of a lot of sprucing up to ever be great, but it does good very well. Lunchtime can always be a bit of a pain here because the ‘fast food’ options are fairly limited; Fat Jackets, Subway(yawn), Harry Ramsdens, Burger King(double yawn), Tandoori King, Deli Fresh, Chicken Cottage. There are a few sit down restaurants on the Lowry side of things, such as Café Rouge, but when you want a quick bite it can all be a bit blah. To spice things up in our lives, we went for Fat Jackets — usually we would go for Subway, but we aren’t the sort of couple to always go to the same places, even when it comes to our fast food. We both opted for the Double Topper; beans&cheese, a drink, and 2 pieces of garlic bread. An absolute novelty as, anyone who knows about carbs, wouldn’t put bread and potato together, but what the hey! For only £5 it was actually a really good meal, filling but not overly so, and the potato was very well cooked, which can be hard to find in a place where I am assuming there isn’t a huge amount of footfall. Only downside is they don’t accept credit/debit cards — I am assuming this is why everyone always seems to go to BK? If not, y’all need to get out more, BK is not the be all and end all. Well done FJ for staying put.

Chicken Tikka with cheddar on a big baked potato! done! very, very filling and was my carb overload for the day! I do think they could charge a little less though! For a baked potato with two fillings in a shopping centre in manchester I’d not want to pay more than £4 but I paid £5! filled me up nicely for the day though.
