So, another review for Subway… «You must really love them», I hear you say«for you to keep going back.» In truth, I have something of an odd compulsion to try out places which, on the face of it should be the same, just to see if there is something there which makes one better than the other. The trip today, to a Subway that which has only recently opened was something of a surprise in more way than one. It’s in completely the opposite direction the one that we usually venture to of a lunch time, which meant that the walk there was a bit more interesting(just on account of the variety). The first proper surprise was that this particular branch of Subway is inside a Premier convenience store. It’s got its own door, but it is properly IN the shop. So much so that the seating area is next to some shelves(more on that later). The second, and this will make me sound sadder than a Shakespeare tragedy, is that they had carrot in the salad. Yes, gasp, carrot. I’ve often felt that our misunderstood orangey friend has been missing from the repertoire at Subway, and seeing it there, all grated, was like seeing an old friend. See, I told you it was sad! I went for a salad(the low fat option of Turkey Ham — I rather thing tonight will make up for it). I’ve had the salad at a number of Subways(Subwaii?) now, and they’re all the same, absolutely nothing to say on that front, but if you’ve always gone for the sandwich, give it a try. You get more or less the same taste, just without all the carbs. The seating area gave us much enjoyment throughout our lunch, being able to comment on the strange juxtaposition of products on the nearby shelves(Paxo near dog food — I wonder if that’s a thing, Shampoo near tuna — which I’m sure isn’t a thing). The sad downside of this is that you don’t exactly feel relaxed when you’re eating. The seating area isn’t massive, and it’s right next to the counter, making the experience feel crowded. All in all, if you’re after a sandwich(or a salad, go on, you won’t regret it) to take away, this is fine — equally, if you’re in the mood for a post-pub foot-long this will do you fine. If you enjoy sitting in, you’d probably be better off at one of the other many Subways around Manchester.
