I paid for an expensive dish. It was only when it came to our table I saw how tiny the dish was. it was about 4 inches! The menu stated that vegetables were extra. It wasn’t value for money. It didn’t look very attractive, they didn’t bother with decent garnish. It looked like a school dinner. Most local pubs are normally pretty good value, and often vegetables are included. For example, the Half Moon in Hildenborough has a £8.95 Sunday Lunch for a 2 course. The Royal Oak in Sevenoaks is pretty reasonable too on Sundays at £10 for a decent carvery. The bar man was pleasant enough but the complaint had to ‘go upwards’ and they were extremely reluctant to give us a refund or weren’t keen to solve things, but eventually they did. When I was there, another family asked for a refund. So i wasn’t alone! I don’t normally make an issue about things, unless it is justified. If things are not right, you can’t really just do nothing. We ended up going somewhere else locally on a different day, had an excellent meal which served good quality local food, fresh from local farms and looked good. The atmosphere: Don’t dream of complaining! Would I recommend this place: Not to my friends. Would never ago again.

We have been dining at the White Rock for a number of years and have always found that the food is excellent and the staff are most helpful. The menu is very good and reasonably priced, particulary the Sunday roasts. In our opinion it is one of the best pubs in the Sevenoaks area. Terry and Daphne Hall Halstead.

I went to The White Rock today Sunday 11th July and had a Fantastic meal a vegetable bake with goats cheese this is one of the best vegetarerian meals i have had when out. The staff were all very cheery and i would happly recommend this pub to any one. There was a Lady at the bar who had decided her food was to expensive after ordering it which you do have to ask yourself what she was playing at as the menus are all priced but watching how the landlord handled it was i was very impressed. If you have chance this pub is well worth a visit.

£17.95 for a Sunday roast of 2 courses even if you only wanted 1. Meat was cold and had to be returned to kitchen. Only 1 choice of hot pudding otherwise ice creams. Not a nice landlord, unfortunate manner, put our backs up. Crakced washbasin in the ladies and no soap. Not what I would expect for those prices. Lovely setting, just improve the food and change the management.

What a shame! Lovely setting but food a real disappointment. My friend and I both ordered vegetarian dishes, she had the chilli and I had the vegetable bake. The chilli was dry and tasteless and the bake looked more like a dish of boiled vegetables with a lump of cheese melted over the top. Neither of us could finish our meals and to make matters worse the chilli also included a piece of hard plastic!!! We pointed this out to the barman who didn’t seem too bothered and made up some excuse about the plastic probably coming from a container the food had been stored in. No reduction in the bill was offered and we left with a feeling of being ripped off, yet again. Why are so many pubs unable to produce a decent meal??? Its not that hard!

Having spent a lovely weekend in Kent recently, the Sunday found us in a rather remote place called Underriver, outside a pretty pub called The White Rock Inn which looked like an ideal place for a spot of well earned lunch. And what a find! The food was fabulous(the menu had anything from sausage and chips in a basket to lobster thermidor or fresh line caught fish!!!), the beer was first class(they even had a locally brewed bitter called ‘White Rock’), the staff very friendly and the service excellent. Even the garden area where we sat was pretty, quiet and big. We had a truly nice time and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it, a real treat. My only reservation was that I had absolutely no idea where in Kent I was! So, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, I ‘Google Earthed’ it to get a better idea only to be confronted with the comments on this website, which I read with both interest and intrigue! Our experience was that of a lovely pub/restaurant, in a glorious setting, with friendly staff, great fresh food and good beer a rare treat this day and age! Yes, the pub was busy but not ‘over-crowded’(should the weather suit al fresco dining, there was room for a small army in the back garden), and nice to see(in this day and age) that the pub warranted a number of very friendly service staff(we even met the infamous ‘Frank’. A character? definitely, arrogant and complacent? no although what might have helped is having the presence of mind to have a look at what draught beers the pub had for sale prior to ordering, otherwise I might have asked for a pint of Becks and got. a pint of Becks!!!) rather than the usual 1 or 2 miserable looking specimens serving food which seems to be the norm these days. The food was served promptly, was obviously fresh rather than the product of a microwave(no wonder that the length of time to receive a main meal is the same whether you order a starter or not, why shouldn’t it be the chef still has to cook it!), and whilst not particularly cheap, it wasn’t that expensive either. If it wasn’t for other pressing matters I would have happily stayed there all afternoon(that and the fact that my increasing consumption of the White Rock bitter was not going unnoticed by the other half) but alas, another time. If your idea of a good pub is admiring the frozen food delivery vans parked outside waiting to unload, a pint of John Smiths and a gaggle of flashing fruit machines(or indeed if you require enough space to feed your ambush of tigers prior to swinging them by their whiskers), then perhaps The White Rock is not the place for you, however if it is superb food, good beer, a lovely location and great service you’re after, give it a try, I promise you wont be disappointed. Personally, I cant wait to go back. I only wish they took Amex.

I was looking forward to my lunch trip here as I had heard that the food was really good. It was full up and the staff seemed a little stressed. We had a pleasant meal, but not anything special. There were a party of four next to us who had a few problems and had to send food back. The pub is very pretty in a lovely location but the restaurant is very small and the tables were very close together. I thought it was very expensive for what we had, 2 people £55, 2 courses, 1 glass of wine and a few cokes. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to go back.

Another lovely country pub that does fantastic food and great beer! Lovely setting, landlord goes fishing and you will often get fish he has caught. Very popular at weekends. worth booking in advance. Some fantastic walks in the vicinity. great place to finish up after a morning walk.
