The place is nice and the music pretty good. The wait for the food was way too long and not worth it at all. We were waiting about 1h for two simple dishes and the service is not good either. They haven’t apologised at all about the wait and they looked pretty stressed all the time.

The place is nicely decorated, little bit American style to me. There was a dj playing some really good appropriate music. Not too loud not to soft the atmosphere is good. Waiting for the two simple dishes was way too long about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Really started to get a bit moody after 1 hour. The food itself was tasting good, and the way it got served was good as well. However the waitress rushed to our table and was gone as fast as she came. The music gets the place an extra star, otherwise I would have giving it only two.

On a recent visit to Sheffield I found myself suddenly hungry, with no knowledge of the city I went back to somewhere I had visited 3 years previously, Bungalows and Bears. Unlike its Leeds counterpart, Nation of Shopkeepers, I find that Bungalows and bears has a much better atmosphere and layout. They avoided the kitsch Nation was done up in and have the advantage of huge windows which you can sit in front of, a great place to people spot. As a converted fire station it is a really spacious venue. On to the food, The menu is built around American diner food with a focus on burgers. We ordered a halloumi and chorizo burger and a new York club sandwich. Both were reasonable prices around £9 for the burger £7 for the sandwich and were generous potions. Whilst the beef itself is not anything to shout about the real treat is the different toppings available to customise on your burger. These range from the standard to more interesting, peanut butter and macaroni cheese anyone? Being a bar venue there is a great drinks selection also but as I visited on a weekday lunchtime I may need to sample the alcoholic drinks on offer! Overall it’s a reliable lunch venue for those of us who love diner style dishes at a good price.

The word I heard time and time again about this place was ‘Hipster’, maybe I’m an über-hipster but this place is pretty standard. Led Zeppelin on the decks, lager and a few real ales on the bar with decent pub grub. Relaxed place with some decent drinks in the city centre.

Definitely a student pub. They pride themselves on their burgers and you can craft your own from plenty of different ingredients on the menu. The guy I was with put away three burgers on one sitting(one was good enough for me, they charge an extra £2 for a double-up burger). That should say something about their burgers, and also fat people. If you want a ‘studenty’ pub food experience that isn’t too expensive and has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, Bungalows and Bears is definitely worth a try.

good place to chill out after walking around town. They have leather settee’s and chairs also a good selection of drinks, but the toilets are aweful I couldn’t see myself for all that grafitti on those mirrors!

Good athmosphere and occasionally good live acts make this my favourite place in Sheffield. The food is okay.

I must fall under the hate it brigade, everytime I’ve visited the staff are surly and unfriendly, the floor is sticky and peppered with tiny glass fragments and the toilets are quite simply the worst I’ve ever encountered. If you are lucky(?) enough to have one of the stained, tatty sofa, you too can spend the evening having drinks spilled on you from the punters trying to avoid the bags/coats/other punters/sofas that are squeezed too close together. Avoid!

Probably the second-best bar in Sheffield right now(after the brilliant ‘Old House’), this is certainly the number one place to be seen. The epitome of cool, they run crazy things like jumble sales and board games nights whilst in the evening featuring the best live acts of any bar in Sheffield right now. Bungalows and Bears is probably best described as a cutting edge trend-setter. If you don’t like people wearing ultra-trendy clothes who clearly spent 4 or 5 hours on their hair and make-up, you probably won’t be a fan. In the day, the atmosphere seems a lot more chilled out, and in the summer they open the big fire-station doors, almost removing the division between bar and street. Drinks prices sometimes seem high, but this is only because of the standard of the beer they are selling. £3.90 for a pint of 9% Leffe is, in fact, very good value. The food is also outstanding.

This is one of those bars you either absolutely love or absolutely hate. It’s pretty trendy and amazingly retro. Looks so bad it’s good. The clientele are a mix of students and young professionals. It’s probably thee place to be if you want to pose in Sheffield as the crowd are always young and incredibly trendy.

The scuzzy-cool décor in this place is wonderful, especially the soundtrack in the toilets(not sure what it’s like in the girls’, but in the mens’ I’ve heard jungle noises and women giggling). Something about the layout doesn’t quite work though: maybe the high ceiling, maybe the disjointed areas, but it never quite seems to generate the atmosphere I’d hope for at night-time. But what really redeems Bungalows & Bears for me is the food. Really, really good pub grub and comfort food, at very reasonable prices. It’s a great place to sit chilling out on a weekend afternoon, luxuriating in some fish pie while reading some of the free magazines they stock(e.g. Vice) and sipping on real ale from the local Kelham Island brewery.

A decent enough venue. Always lots of room apart from next to the bar which can get busy and take quite a while to get served at. Relaxed sofa area at the front of the pub. Often has DJs, often a little loud for my liking but I’m just being old. Does decent food during the day and is very chilled out for an afternoon drink.

Really good bar in Sheffield with chilled out atmosphere. Has loads of comfy sofas at front of bar, which is a good place in the day to people watch outside. At night time, really good place to catch up and chill out with friends.

Bungalows and bears is a good effort gone wrong in my experiance. while i can see how it may attract some people the bar does not make effective use of the space, i find the lighting in the place to be quite dingey and off putting and music is often too load. When i visited a firm smell of an illegal substance seemed to be coming through the air conditioning that seemed to be directly next to the kitchen area toilets are clean, but alot of graffity, all though it is unclear whether this is a design or if its what people have actualy done to the place

This bar is located on Division Street, slightly away from the main set of bars on West Street. There a few bars near by to make a division street crawl. Inside is where this bar really sticks out; the decorations are soooo tacky it looks great. There are plenty are of comfy seats to be had but have to get in early! The bar is well stocked and is able to offer a variety of drinks and cocktails, the prices are average town prices. On the weekend the dj set is good and mixed to keep everyone in the party mood. The staff are friendly enough. The toilets are clean, which is great news at the weekend when it’s really busy. The place is defiantly aimed at the cool and in types but welcomes everyone. Overall a good bar for a night out, or for a drink in the day there are various activities happening such as jumble/vintage fairs.

I went for lunch here with my friend and found it charming. We dropped our shopping bags and sank into the cosy sofas. The atmosphere was welcoming and I foudn the bar staff very friendly. I ordered a burger which was huge but delicious, so much so that I couldn’t eat it all and the obliging bar staff had to provide me with a doggy bag! There was a good range of bar food on the menu and the prices were reasonable. However, the drinks were a little on the expensive side. The toilets were clean which is always a bonus!

I love it here but can completely see why others hate it! It is a bit ‘trendy’ but has a good selection of beers, comfy sofas and you’re always guaranteed a good selection of music. And it’s always dark! They do hold jumble sales, knitting clubs and have a whole host of deejay nights — pass the parcel on a saturday night? They do serve food which is nice and something a bit different from standard pub grub!

Probably my favourite bar in Sheffield at the moment. This place is particularly great for a daytime session/chillout. Lots of big old comfy sofas, good homely comfort food(try the lamb burger with beetroot and goats cheese relish!) at reasonable prices, and a good beer selection. Great place to chill out with your mates, read the paper, and listen to some great tunes.

Come on people, let’s get the real Sheffield on the Qype map! This place is absolutely fantastic. It’s a bar in an old fire station, with massive windows, tall ceilings and big open plan space. The furniture all looks like it’s been sourced from an old youth club or village hall, really amazingly retro. We went on a Thursday night and the DJ was playing absolutely wicked tunes, the place had a brilliant vibe to it. The cocktails were reasonably priced, as were all the drinks, and really good. The food menu looked really good, but they only serve food at lunchtime. The toilet door make bear growling noises when you open them, very scary when you’re not prepared! The clientele were young and trendy to the max knitted tanktops, big 70’s hair, huge lapels all round. Had a wonderful feel to the place, currently looking for any excuse to return. We went in for a few and moved on to meet more friends, but we’d gravitated back by the end of the night, my spiritual home in Sheffield!
