Got a table at 6.15pm even though half the restaurant was reserved. We had starter and Mains. They got the Main wrong in that they put the side order of veg on my plate with the minute steak but not the frites I ordered. The veg was meant to be for my colleague to go with his lamb shank. So my plate went back and returned with chips n no veg lol The steak looked so small, though I’m no expert, it was tiny!!! It was fine though, I ate most of it. Though I do feel hungry now, 5 hours later. I used my NUSCARD with gourmet society card bolt on and got 20% off the bill. But you can use voucher cloud or voucher code to get discounts. They are no longer on tastecard.

Not bad for lunch. £30 for two of us. Nice food not microwaved frozen stuff like most places.

Café Rouge is pretty much what you’d expect from a chain restaurant. Being French-themed, it has some great dishes although the quality of them it pretty much pot-luck. However, the one time I went there for lunch and stressed that we were in a hurry, it took them over 40 minutes to serve our food and even then the waitress had to be reminded to bring it out.

This is a very nice place which has a great atmosphere. The food is good and the décor is lovely. The staff have allways been nice and friendly whenever i have been in and they offer up come of the best coffie in the area. My only complaint about this place is the price, the food can be a touch on the expensive side but i can’t realy complain because of the fabulouse surrounding that you are eating in, it has a real french feel to the place. I would say it is an ideal place to take a partner on a date, perhaps for your anniversary? i know i plan to take my partner here.

A quiet and peaceful café/restaurant in the centre of town. We enjoyed authentic french food in a comfortable setting. Menu was interesting and service was good — it was a Monday so not too busy but it had been graduation at the City Hall so there were many families in. Easy walking distaance from carparks and hotels. It took Tesco vouchers!

Café Rouge is a popular chain, successfully serving French staples to the masses via its High Street restaurants. Dishes on offer include Toulouse Sausage, French Onion Soup and my favourite, Boeuf Bourguignon with lots of smoked bacon and mushrooms. Mmm. It’s good that such classic cooking is being made easily available to all, but it’s a shame I can’t tell you anything about this Sheffield branch that’s any different to all the other Café Rouges I’ve been to. I’m sorry, but I can barely spot a difference! The whole experience is very nice on the first few visits. The walls are brightly decorated and go for a rustic feel while staff members are always professional. CR’s menu offers plenty of choice, although to the more discerning fans of French cuisine it’s probably as adventurous as a weekend in Maidenhead; for instance, Soup de Poissons is absent — perhaps deemed to not be to British tastes. During subsequent visits the charm wears off a little and you see the(metaphorical) cracks in the wallpaper. The rustic signs espousing ‘boissons’, ‘croissants’ and ‘biere’ you realise, are not meant to represent France, but a British ‘view’ of France where no Gallic word must be outwith the GCSE French curriculumor maybe I’m nitpicking. Perhaps the idea is to go once, enjoy your Bourguignon and not expect it to be different the next time. I though, like to see something new with each visit. Other big chains like Starbucks manage to keep things fresh for their regulars by constantly inventing new coffees. It’d be nice to see CR do something similar.
