A queue leading out of a fish and chop shop’s door is always a good sign, and one that you’ll often see at Codrophenia. Tucked away in a Sheffield suburb, it nonetheless manages to draw the crowds, especially on a Friday night. This does mean that you’ll sometimes have a wait for your fish supper. Codrophenia offers the standard choice of takeaway items, with perhaps a little more attention than usual paid to vegetarians, with a few meat-free options on the menu. Almost without exception the food tastes fantastic, with perfectly-cooked chips and melt-in-the-mouth fish covered in delicious crisy batter. Freshly-cooked food is one of the advantages of it being so busy — the food doesn’t get chance to sit around! The staff are always friendly too, despite being rushed off their feet at times. The only downside to Codrophenia are its limited opening times — it closes at 8pm every night, apart from Sunday and Monday nights when it doesn’t open at all. If you arrive close to closing time then they’ve sometimes run out of what you want, and risk your chips being a little overdone. It’s not for you if you fancy a post-pub takeaway. Despite this I was almost tempted to give it five stars, but if it gets even more popular then the queues might stretch back to my house!
