Giraffe – Sheffield Meadowhall

Visiting Meadowhall there’s a great range of places to dine. Feeling I was about to lose the chance to try somewhere new for yet another trip to Nandos, (now I love a good nandos but I must have filled 3 loyalty cards in half the visits I’ve made!) we opted for Giraffe as the menu looked pretty varied. And varied it was!
A range of appetisers, starters and sharing platters listed the first page, there was then lunch items, burgers, favourites, salads and a starter & main option for just £9.95!
On the back as well as the regular soft drinks there were fruit juices, fresh lemonade, iced tea as well as lots of hot drinks and different bottled beers. Now they don’t offer draught beer but there’s also a separate cocktail and wine menu.
Waiting on our fourth diner we were promptly served our drinks and after a while talked into ordering our starters which all came on little rectangular plates. I ordered sesame chicken wings which were very hot I attempted using my knife & fork to save my fingers! They came with prawn crackers and a dipping sauce! Quite tasty!
When our fourth diner had joined us we ordered more drinks and our mains. I opted for the Japanese Pork Snitzel which I soon had to abandon my chopsticks so I could shovel more noodles into my mouth! I was really impressed with the freshness of the vegetables, the light katsu curry sauce and the pork that I could break apart with my chopstick.
One of the girls had ordered a burger without a few items which were well noted and when asked for halloumi not mentioned on the menu the server advised as it was added to the burger in error this was at no extra cost and produced a dish of it on the side for £1.95.
My two courses and 3 drinks came in at under £20. Overall quite impressed =]

Good little restaurant that makes a welcome break in-​between shopping, or you can use it as a good pre film venue.

We arrived and I got the menu, thought it was pricey but I had my student discount for 25% making it more reasonable (back to that later).
Got our food, which took a while, it tasted nice but you can’t help but think £8.25 for one egg, a few beans, two sausages and a tiny mushroom! Not great value, still I was thinking I will have my 25% off to make it better!
Asked for the bill and this is when the problems started, my friend ordered something from the lunch menu, even though there was two of us having full price items, they said they couldn’t give the student discount at all! No where does it say that they won’t do this, I understand they might not on the one item, but why not on the rest of the full price items? Adding to that they add 10% tip on the total! I might have left a tip, but I don’t like the fact the automatically add it. Contacting customer services about this, I got fobbed off and basically told if you aren’t happy with the tip being added then you need to speak to a manager at the branch? WTF! It shouldn’t be added anyway we aren’t in America!

I went on the Giraffe website and printed off a voucher I think it was 40% off food. I had a pint with the burger and it still cost £10.50, yes Giraffe is quite expensive but the food is great I picked a Giraffe burger which included cheese and bacon with the burger, the burger had a great taste and you get a bowl of chips with it. Giraffe is much better than the Home Made Burger Company, but I think the burger could have done with being a bit hotter. I’ll definatly be going back here, nice atmosphere, friendly staff.
