I like tours of stately homes. I would like it even more if they were my homes. This particular one is still on private ownership of the Sitwell family(for over 400 years) and its actually still used as a family home. The first floor of the property, the gardens and the stables are available for viewing. Looking at all the great art in this house makes it obvious that the Sitwells have been avid collectors and patrons of the arts. They’ve got some great modern paintings, as well as amazing porcelain and some very nice books. No wonder as its the home of three of the best English writers of the early 20th century: Edith, Osbert and Sacheverell Sitwell Its a great estate and rather unknown, so go there, have a look and then be the«know-it-all» at the next pub quiz!
