Not the company’s fault that all the customers in the Globe glared at me when I walked in, but says a lot about the customer base. Born and raised in Sheffield but moved to London before I went to pubs, I thought I’d give this place a try while I had an afternoon to kill. Big mistake. The place gives off the vibe of being a friend-of-a-friends flat, where you go because your friends have gone but you never really feel welcome. The music is bass-heavy and seemed to be a whole Beyoncé album. After buying a coke, «5 pound for card» was grunted at me by the second member of staff I tried to buy it from. The first was a sour-faced woman who walked off after making eye contact, then announced«she was here first» to a woman approaching the bar. Apparently the student card scheme is a good deal, and I haven’t tried the food but I will not be back here.

A trip back to the Globe, that haven of tasty burgers, taught me disappointment. It seems that sometime recently, they switched to some sort of frozen, pre-made burgers. They just don’t taste good. The consistency is nothing like real meat, and despite the fact that I know it’s real meat cause Britain actually has food quality laws, I just found the burgers completely unpalatable. So, my apologies to those who visited on my recommendation between when they rocked and now; the Globe has fallen from grace. They still have cheap pints, though, if that’s what you’re looking for. ;)

Starting drinking here earlier this year partly due to the offers they have. Its an eclectic mix of people being in the heart of the student area students get a yellow card when you come back to Sheffield and get discounts and special offer nights. Also with passing trade to and from the station and people from local businesses and flats so all ages are at home here. Music on the jukebox is random mix from 70’s, 80’s 90’s, 00’s. from Soul to Rock to Street. The food is basic pub grub but in a good quantity and good value especially the beer and burger offer. Bar staff friendly and an outide drinking area available.

A Scream pub which generally, as in this case, means cheap drinks prices(cheaper if you can get one of their student yellow cards), basic but edible food. A variety of drinks but nothing outlandish. This Scream has a mixed client base but there is a strong tendency for students to go there. It has a pool table, quiz and fruit machines, decent jukebox and a big screen shows the bigger sporting events.

The place is a bit studenty, but that’s to be expected when you go in a pub directly opposite to Sheffield Hallam Uni. If you get a Yellowcard, then drinks are pretty cheap, and as long as you like or don’t mind rock music, then the music will suit you fine. If it doesn’t, you can just splash the cash and put something decent on the jukebox. This pub comes with a caveat. The bogs stink. Like, they really stink. I didn’t believe my friend when she told me they were rank, but the stench kind of makes me want to heave. So much so, that I can’t stay in there for any amount of time incase I need to use the stink-worthy facilities. Shame really, cause the rest of the pub is fairly ace.
