I like the grind café. I live close by and often stop in for a Bacon Sandwich and coffee on my way into work or on a Saturday morning. The full english breakfast is really good, and I like to take visitors there on a Sunday after a heavy Saturday night sampling Kelham Islands many fine taverns. However, I have a major beef which puts me off and thats the high cost of some of the menu. This morning I had a Sausage, Bacon and Egg sandwich and a regular coffee to take away, and the change from a tenner was negligible(it didn’t make it to a £2 coin!). I don’t mind paying for quality, but there is no shortage of good sandwich shops that can do the same thing for literally half the price. There is a lot of bread in the sandwiches too, which can make them seem underfilled with real product. If the grind could either offer a discount for regulars /locals, or look at how you can get a nicely filled bacon roll and coffee with change from a fiver, then I’d visit a lot more often… Ps. Be really careful parking round there — The double yellows have a nice traffic warden on full time guard, and his favourite expression is ‘That was an expensive coffee’.

According to its own website, this place is called The Grind Café, which offers coffee, breakfast, lunch and deli service. We had breakfast here on a slow and easy Sunday, going for the full breakfast, cappuccinos, sausage and bacon butties and bacon over waffles. The four of us tucked in to enjoyable food that was tasty(even though the ingredients didn’t seem to be high-end), washed down with nice coffee that was reasonably well made. The vibe was relaxed and not too noisy, and there’s a choice of seats ranging from traditional table and chairs to tall window-view tables suitable for the four of us. The staff were friendly and polite — really good service — and the flapjacks are excellent(samples available, and you really should buy one for the road!).

I had the best cup of coffee of my entire trip at this cute coffee shop located in the Kelham Island area of Sheffield. I am a sucker for decorations in my foam and the coffee didn’t taste burnt at all(what a relief, so many places burn their espresso) It was a pretty close walk along the river from where I was staying but I noticed there was plenty of street parking around. When I walked in, I was greeted by really pleasant servers(one was an american, woot!) and they mentioned that they had free wifi(wireless internet) which really saved me! There were lots of tables and some outlets available for laptops. Seems like a good place to get some studying in. I will definitely frequent this place the next time I am in Sheffield.
