I have just returned from eating my second full Christmas Menu at the Cross Keys. The service, food and surroundings were second to none. I booked the small dining room that overlooks the Conduit and Christmas tree. The full four course menu cost an amazing £12.95 and offered the following choices: Starters: Soup, Crispy coated mushrooms with garlic mayo or Prawn cocktail. Main: Roast Turkey(Yorkshire pudding roast and boiled potatoes, roast parsnip stuffing and sausage) Baked Cod Au Gratin Stuffed roast bell peppers. All served with a selection of vegetables(In heated dishes) Sweets: Cristmas Pudding and Brandy sauce Choc Fudge cake Rasberry Mille Fuille. 4th Course: Coffee and Mince pies(served warmed) All plates were hot and the table decorated for Christmas with crackers. The staff constantly checked that all was well and that we had enough vegetables. The highlights I think was the fact that this food was ‘real’ and home cooked. The gravy and the roast potatoes were particularly good. I understand that the Cross Keys has recently changed hands I thoroughly recommend it. I have not yet tried the other meals on offer but judging by their Christmas offering it could be well worthwhile.
