This is my local so you might expect me to be biased, but just about everyone who visits The New Inn would agree that it is a great place to eat and enjoy a pint of real ale or a glass of wine. The bar snacks and the two-courses-for-£12.95 offer during the week(before 7.00pm) are especially good value. The menu is excellent and the ingredients are, wherever possible, locally-sourced, fresh and of the highest quality. The beef, which is reared literally a stone’s throw away from the pub, is especially good. While it’s not the cheapest place to eat in the area, it won’t break the bank either. The décor is good and the atmosphere relaxed. The staff are friendly and the whole place is always kept spotlessly clean. There is a large patio garden too, so you can eat outside when the weather is fine. If you want to put it to the test, try one of the home-made Scotch Eggs, a bowl of New Inn Chips and a pint of the Stonehouse Station Bitter, which is brewed eight miles up the road in Oswestry.

The New Inn is plainly a popular pub restaurant — the bar was full on our arrival this evening. The six of us were quickly shown to our reserved table, drinks were ordered and served and our orders for food were requested after just the right interval. Starters — mostly grilled asparagus with poached egg and koftas — were delicious. Mains of chicken curry, pork escalopes, sea bass and lamb were all also well-received. With two bottles of white and two of red, a couple of beers and five coffees, the bill came to £198. We felt this represented good value. The service was good(a door was unlocked on request for one of our party who was on crutches without question) the specials board and menu provided a wide choice and a enjoyable night was had by all
