Located past Pontesbury and Minsterley the Stiperstones in is situated close to the devils chair in a beautiful part of Shropshire. If you are looking for a fancy country retreat keep on driving but, if you are after a true Shropshire pub serving true pub grub then stop off and enjoy. Also try looking next door, its like an Aladdin’s cave!

I love the Stiperstones Inn — if only because it’s an important part of my childhood. I went here again recently with a group of friends who were all amazed by how cheap it was to stay in such a quaint old inn with proper wobbly floors and an open fireplace. We sat in the bar drying out after a long walk, drinking real ales in our slippers — perfect! The food is good — not gastro pub levels, but reasonable quality and a great price. The pies and puddings are just what you need after a day spent walking amongst the Stiperstones hills. It’s in beautiful surroundings, with the Devil’s Chair nearby, a prehistoric stone circle, lots of puffball mushrooms and plenty of unspoilt countryside.

This Inn is in the village of Snailbeach, which is 12 miles SW of Shrewsury. Follow the A488 to Minsterley and turn left half a mile further along. The Stiperstones is part of the Shropshire Hills area of outstanding natural beauty and the scenery is breathtaking. A great place to walk energetically. Beats a gymn any day. The pub is quaint and unspoiled, with a real fire in the lounge. The food is very reasonably priced, most meals being under £7, and is basic but acceptable at the price. I had a Sunday lunch, the beef was rare and thickly sliced but the roast potatoes were disappointing as the looked as if they had been in a fryer rather than an oven and the gravy was not up to much either, but the local paper gave the other meals and the pub in general a rave review last weekend. The staff are friendly, they will aslo collect you from a bus if necessary and you can also stay here. They have real ale, Shropshire Lass was excellent according to my husband and two drinks two Sunday roasts and a coffe was !3.90. The views are to die for, so give this little known area a try.
