Indeed a refreshing change from murals of terrorists. The map shows the location as being in Shrigley, about a mile away. It is in fact near the bottom of Frederick Street in Killyleagh itself. Wouldn’t it be nice if communities throughout Northern Ireland would organise their schoolchildren to design murals like this.

All to often Murals and street art are associated with negative connotations. Especially in Northern Ireland where a Mural often marks territories or serves as a reminder of our darker days. But there are some mural out there that are positive. In the small town of Killyleagh there is one such example, The Killyleagh Mural was created in 2006 by local artists Tracey Gallogly and Deirdre McKenna but it is not the art that it particularly special it is the conception of the Mural. It was created by 200 school children from the local community and it depicts our culture. Which of course is football. The Mural celebrates the achievements of local football legends Hugh Davy, Terry Cochrane and David Healy(Northern Irelands record goal scorer) and it gives you a feeling of pride about our sporting heritage. The site of the Mural has become a place for local people to celebrate Norn Iron’s football victories and in turn a place to come together as one community. This really is a heart warming place and I would advise you to pay it a visit especially if Our Wee Country are playing an important match.
