A large-ish four star rated hotel, set in Berkshire countryside about an hour’s drive from West London, specializing in weddings(the wedding brochures in the rooms and the number of wedding parties gives this away). Rooms are on small sideand somewhat oldfashioned, and, being a conversion of a stately pile, it is something of a rabbit warren take care to take your bearings before attempting to navigate a worse-for-wear way back from a ceremony. Also, there is a somewhat bizarre arrangement with the beds, involving a Barbie sized duvet tucked well in, so unless you’re on the short side, you’ll need to remake the bed. Staff are generally friendly and pretty efficient breakfasts standard British hotel fare, but to a good standard. I believe there is a pool and other facilities, but the nature of our visit(a big family wedding) precluded exploration. Fairly close to Windsor Castle and other tourist attractions too, which is worth bearing in mind. Good for: wedding parties, short breaks to visit touristy stuff Not so good for: Quiet romantic breaks
