Located close to Shirley train station, the Station Fish Bar is fairly self explanatory. One of the best selling points of the Station Fish Bar is that it opens every day apart from Sundays for lunches, before closing briefly then reopening for dinner. Too few real fish and chip shops are open for lunch I find, so it’s always nice to find one that realises people want to clog their arteries with fish batter at lunchtime as well as dinner. Actually, that’s doing the Station Fish Bar disservice, because, as fish and chip shops go, their food is surprisingly healthy, with more than your standard cod on offer, like fresh Roe. Their chips are some of the best I’ve ever tasted as well, which is saying something considering how much of my time and money I spend on takeaways.

This is my local chippy. I don’t often eat chip shop food but if I do then this is the place to be. I’ve never had a bad experience here. I’ve tried most of their food and think it tastes great but it wouldn’t hurt for them to expand the healthy menu. The staff are usually chatty and if you’re a regular, like I used to, they like get to know you. Isn’t that nice? The prices are what you’d expect for a normal chip shop; approximately two pounds for a pie, two to four pounds for chips(depending on your portion) and a pound for a drink. I can’t expect more from this chippy other than the promote their healthy eating menu, for the sake of the customer’s body!

Found quite close to Shirley train and bus station on Haslucks Road. Some parking is avaliable outside the chippy. The chips are a good portion and are fresh tasting and the fish is also lovely, not full of too much batter which can be the case in some chippy’s to try and make it look bigger! Friendly staff and good prices
