A decent place for a quick beer and a throw of darts, staff are welcoming. A better whisky selection would be nice however.

A small, social club style bar with a relaxed and fairly chilled atmosphere. Not the greatest range of spirits, however i felt it more of a place for the local residents of Shirley and Solihull to meet up and have a few beers in casual surroundings. Friendly service behind the bar and a small beer garden to the rear. There is a dart board at the back of the bar and although i only ventured in for a drink, I ended up having a good game of darts. Big screen for watching sport, food and snacks available. This Independent bar is something different for Shirley and for that reason i would say it’s worth checking out.

Wandering down the Stratford Road in Shirley, Solihull one day, I was looking for somewhere to get out of the rain, put my feet up for a bit, and relax with a drink. Looming in the distance I could see a large pub, the Plume of Feathers, which immediately put me off thanks to its active advertisement of the fact that it was a chain pub. Resigned, I headed that way, and just as I was about to cross, I came upon Strawberry Fields, tucked into an unassuming small arcade of shops. From the outside, it looks like anything but your stereotypical pub, with large bay windows, but inside it’s a fascinating little pub. It’s easy to take from granted just how many of the pubs around today are part of a chain, no matter how well they hide it, and so finding such a unique, independent one is a real treat. Appropriately for the name, it’s got a beer garden, and serves a range of ales as well as the standard lager. A great find, and highly recommended.
