This country house has peaceful grounds which include a landscaped garden and pond for ducks, geese and swans. The rooms are not your contemporary affair, and are very much styled as they would have been 50 years ago, though with added conveniences like flat screen TVs. If you’re over 6 foot, you may find the beds a little short as they are very much luxury antiques(I found them tolerable). The bathrooms are beautiful, and contain large roll top baths. From what we have seen on our two night stay, Somerton is not the most exciting town and you will most likely have to drive the local area to find activities and places to see. We visited Cheddar Gorge and Lyme Regis, which are both an hour away. We didn’t visit Langford, which is meant to be nice, and the hotel has a link with a bike rental firm here. The owner’s and staff are very friendly and accommodated our needs. Breakfast is served with generous portions of local quality ingredients. If you want to eat in the evening, head to The Red Lion in Babcary. The restaurants and pubs in Somerton weren’t very appealing.
