Went here for a quick lunch of scampi and chips and what can I say, Harry Ramsden’s never fails to please. It’s always super yummy, and everything you can expect from a chain fish and chip shop. One of my favourite fish and chip places!

This is the only place I know to eat fish and chips in Southampton, so I can not compare with other fish and chips. The place is often full of people(not just this one but all the area of «food floor» of west quay) I like to go with my friend who visit me from France(so this is the occasion to eat a traditional fish and chips), and I like eating there. The service is quick, the fish is good and the fries are neither good or bad just normal. I discovered the taste of the fries with salt and vinegar, taste that I like! So if you want to eat a fish and chips for a good price, this is the place.

The problem with visiting a Harry Ramsden franchise if you’ve ever visited the ‘original’ in Guiseley, Yorkshire is rather unfairly making a comparison with it. I think a lot of people would probably say something like: ‘Harry must be turning in his grave!‘ But, the Guiseley branch and the franchise in the West Quay shopping centre in Southampton cater for a different clientele. The opulent restaurant at Guiseley was originally targeted at hikers on their way home from the Yorkshire Dales, who used to stop in for a fairly leisurely meal. Southampton is there for shoppers seeking a quick bite before resuming their shopping. Hence, the seating area is rather spartan and basic, and just like any other fast food place apart from the picture of Harry and the original hut at Guiseley on the wall. But, the important thing is the fish and chips. Harry Ramsden used to insist that only beef fat be used, and no fish be served unless it was landed that morning. However, freezing techniques have improved since Harry’s day, and it’s probable, these days, that they’d use vegetable oil. So, it’s probable that even Harry would approve of the offerings here.

harry ramsdens food is always very hot and well cooked. however, the chips are somewhat bland and unsatisfying in my mind. dont get me wrong, no food is bad here, they smile a lot and its fast service. but just a little lacklustre on the chip front. maybe to do with the fact its in a very busy environment of west quay

This restaurant is in the food court of West Quay Shopping Centre. I personally am not that keen on the fish and chips and would rather go to another chip for them. The prices are fairly expensive for what you get. It is normally busy when I walk past and the queues can be quite long. On the occasion I went it took a while to be served. There is seating inside Harrys Ramsdens, upstairs which is kept clean and other tables are in the food court but they normally get taken quickly. The staff were alright when I went.

This harry ramsdens is located right at the top of west quay shopping centre in the heart of southampton centre. Easily accessible from the M27, come off at junction 3 and follow the sign in to the shopping area. Good old harry ramsdens always serves up some lovely fish and chips everytime we go there, the only negative i would say is often the queue here is massive and takes ages to get served. It’s partly due to being so busy, but also down to the staff really too as they just dont seem bothered in serving any quicker. Lots of seating outside in the main open area, although often this is a battle too to get a seat and enjoy your meal.
