I really wanted to be able to give this place 4 or 5 stars. The location is spectacular, right on the waterfront, and the views from the 1st floor are wonderful. The pub also has a great atmosphere and was quite full when I visited with colleagues on a Thursday evening. Fundamentally, the place is let down by the food and in the case of our visit, the service. The choice of starters is limited. Two of the five main starter choices are mushroom based, with soup and two seafood options making up the remaining three. Not particularly diverse. The mains are standard pub fare and to be honest, not exciting. Service was a great disappointment. The starter for one of our group was clearly forgotten and eventually turned up 3 minutes before the mains. Drinks orders were taken, only to be chased 10 minutes later with drinks eventually arriving some 15 minutes after ordering. And a dessert order was forgotten, by which point we’d given up on the whole thing. I know large groups can be challenging to manage but we had booked ahead so should have been expected. Great location but on this occasion, poor food and service let the whole thing down.

Great pub right on the Hamble river. Has a nice atmosphere. Can get quite busy in summer months but seating outside across the car park with an excellent view. Food is nothing special but ok.

Absolutely love to pay this place a little visit. The pub itself is quite traditional but very well looked after and has a really nice feel about it. Upstairs you can sit down and eat whilst looking out across the River Hamble at all the passing boats. The food has always been good and doesn’t disappoint. The staff are very friendly, it ticks all the boxes. On a sunny day you can get your drink in a plastic glass and sit outside on the edge of the water. Times flies by when I’m basking out there and before I know it I’m a few pints in. Vistied many times in the past and will be back many times in the future.

Yet another good olde English Pub. This pub is just down the road from my grandma’s house, so I have taken her here a couple of times. The food is A-OK, and good value. My grandma always seems to go for the fish and chips which is huuuuge and comes with mushy peas. Last weekend I had the ‘sizzling salmon’ from the specials and it was gorgeous — served on a pile of red peppers and caramelised onion with huge potato wedges and salad. The best things about this pub, are the friendly staff and the views of the sea/boats out of the window. I was also impressed that my round of drinks for four people cost less than a tenner! I’ve never tried the deserts as grandma always wants to make us some kind of sweet-thing before we head home… this time I was so full, I couldn’t even eat grandma’s waffles! It must’ve been good!

Both my partner and I have been to this Pub/Restaurant on countless times for varying reasons. It has just recently had a revamp and is better than ever now. The view: — It is set at the edge of the River Hamble and its still an active fishing port amongst other things today. The view, even on a bad day is gorgeous. During World War II many of the small ships left from here for the D-Day landings and has a commemorative plaque/monument for the lives lost during the War. The food is lovely as is it’s presentation and is a reasonable price as well. My partner who is a Real Ale man loves it here as they sell Speckled Hen, which is his favourite, on tap amongst other Ales. They also have a selection of normal Beers and Lagers amongst Wines and Spirits and Soft Drinks or even Coffee and Tea if you prefer. The ground floor houses the bar and you can also eat on this level. There is a spiral staircase to the first floor which is the restaurant section with even better views across the Hamble River. There is plenty of parking at the front of the pub with a 2nd Car Park further along the road. The restaurant can be hired out for private functions. They also have live music at times which has always been good. The atmosphere is really lovely and welcoming. A lovely place to go even on a cold wet winters day. Jean & John Fareham
