Any seaside resort is chock full of casual seafood eateries, but the selection is slimmer during winter months as half the shoreline places are closed for the season. There were some open, but void of customers, which isn’t optimal if looking for fresh food. Then bumped into Ye Olde Chippy. It’s looks completely fast-casual and tourist-gimmicky(even the name and fake castle motif). But it also had people. Locals(it seemed). There’s nothing fancy here. In fact, it’s kind of a dive. The menu is pretty simple… things + chips and most of it is deep fried in seconds and delivered to the table quickly. But a somewhat steady flow of takeaway customers and sit down eaters meant the fryers were hot and turning out fare. This was nothing special but I wasn’t expecting anything more than fried fish with fried sides and that’s exactly what I got. The fish tasted fresh and was meaty, not processes. The fries were adequate. The portion was big(for 6.50) and the place seemed family owned, with quirky but cool wait staff.
