The Akash

Bless him, the young guy that took our order messed up the drinks, mumbled and was impatient almost to the point of rudeness. But, confusingly, it was slightly charming. If you’re on a date, don’t sit toward the middle of the room… the speckled blue LED downlights made everyone on our table look half-​dead and aged us all 10 years. THe tables by the window and bar are cosy, comfortable and clean.
It was busy on a Wednesday night, parking around that area at 7:30 was almost impossible.
The Food:
A little slow on the delivery, the Tandoori was far too salty, to the point where it was almost ruined. A Chicken Korma, ordered to be medium spicy, was delicious and sweet but not hot at all. The Mango Chutney with the poppadums was delicious but it’s liquidy consistency was suspect.
The Murghi Jursala Special (apologies for getting spelling wrong on that one if I did) was delightful. Tasty, a perfect balance of taste and spice, the Pilau with it was great but the «salad» was just half a shredded, bitter, cos Lettuce.
On the side:
The Tandoori Roti was dry to a crisp (not good) but the naan was fluffy and light.
There was little in the way of selection for the wine and they were mostly Hardy’s or Jacob’s creek. Fine for washing food down but maybe bring your own if you want something special.
However, for 4 people with a bottle of wine, beer, water, poppadums and 4 mains, it was just over £60. Incredibly reasonable.
If you want a reasonably priced takeaway, I think this is the place to be.

Well, where do you start with The Akash? The food, i suppose. This is easily the best indian restaurant i have ever been to. The food is something else! I’ve mentioned in other reviews how difficult it is sometimes to get good Vegan food, and to find places that are willing to adapt dishes for me. The Akash? no problems! I have a certain love of their Mushroom Korma dish (mushrooms, mmmmmmm!) and they have no issues at all making it without cream for me. Usually i get funny look when i ask for dishes to be edited slightly, but not here. Every single meal i have ever tried at The Akash has been excellent quality.
To top this, every night of the week has a half price meal offer (Eating in only, 5.30pm-9.30pm) which makes it an amazingly priced deal, helpful in the midst of this government cock up. Uh, I mean credit crunch ;p
Another of the (many) bonuses to The Akash is the hospitality. It is rare to ever see the owner of a restaurant IN the restaurant, but George (man in charge, owner and founder) is a regular face. I don’t honestly think the man stops smiling! He makes an effort to shake everyones hand too, especially if you are a regular. Along with his sons Forhad and Jeff, this really is a proper family run business.
To summerise: Awesome food, Great prices, Fantastic staff. What more could you want? How about a chocolate and a free shot of Bailey’s with your bill?
I’ve never had any complaints, heard of any complaints, or know anyone who has a friend of a friend that has ever had any complaints about The Akash. You should try it: P

excellent food, really good prices every night till 8pm half price food, clean helpful and nice people working there, mainly the same family, the owner is called george and he and his sons work really hard for its customers! go on treat yourselves to a really good indian meal.

Good food at great prices. Meals are half price 5−9pm on weekdays so you are looking at less than £10 per person to eat out.
Great range of curries, some you know and some you dont.
Everyone is very friendly and the service is good at all times of day and night!

Probably not the best curry in the world, but very good. Stays open till 3am so gets quite full with drunken people from 1 onwards.
