Whether the weather is fair or poor it’s always nice to take a walk along the pier to catch some fresh air. The view of Southwold is lovely and the whole pier has been designed in unison. There are a number of café’s, trinket shops, a quirky arcade and the Water Aid clock which has a fun twist every half hour. This is how piers should be.

You all missed out the water clock, having said that it is not always running, but if it is the wait for the hour is worth it. The pier and surroundings are always clean and tidy and plenty of seating inside and out for tea or something a bit stronger.

A lovely pier offering stunning sea and coastal views. In case you are hungry or thirsty or if you look for a souvenir — this is the place to go, you will not be disappointed. The pier is clean and tidy which is another great plus.

A lovely well maintained and cared for pier with much better than average gift shops but the highlight are the amusements on the pier(not the ones at the front!). I bet you’ll not have come across anything like them … they are so much fun! I don’t want to say much more as you really have to discover them for yourself. There are good seating areas near the very end of the pier which helps shield you from the wind, the clocktower is very amusing — even the rubbish bins fit in with the design style of the pier — quirky and clever! Enjoy!

Southwold pier(along with its beach and sea-front) has a quaint, old-world charm that is just right for these staycation times. It’s the sort of place that reminds me of what my parents’ childhoods would have been like if they had been brought up in this part of the world. From the water clock with its quirky show to fish, chips and a Suffolk beer sitting out on the pier, looking through the boards to the sea below, this is a relaxing, civilised and quintessentially British sort of place. Afternoon tea, anyone?

The highlight of a visit to Southwold Pier is going to the ‘Under The Pier’ show. It’s full of wonderfully bizarre interactive amusement machines for you to try. Designed by a bloke called Tim Hunkin, there is a machine that will give you a massage, a doctor that will give you a check-up and write you a prescription, and a motorised dog you can take for a walk, plus more(all together there are approx 15 different machines for you to interact with!) It is all very DIY and not what you would describe as slick, but you will almost certainly leave the place with a big smile on your face! There are also some ‘modern’ amusements at the pier, a small-ish tea shop, and there were also people fishing at the end on the day we visited.
