It is a rare occasion when I visit a Harvester, because at the end of the day it is usually a second or third option. Such was the case yesterday, the little country pub was fully booked so we had to find somewhere close to eat, and the local Harvester was the nearest option. I can’t really fault the food, my steak was nice if a little bloody for medium well, the mix grill that Mrs Z had was fine, the rack of ribs that were ordered looked good, and the other steak that was ordered seemed to go down quite well too. Where the place fell down a bit was in the dirty menu department, which as i’m sure you’ll agree is pretty poor going, although tempered a bit by the free salad bar(well stocked) and the free soft drinks refills. Harvester, a decent second choice, but when all is said and done that’s all it is…

I’m not a massive fan of the Harvester chain, but sometimes it’s just cheap and convenient enough to tempt you in This Harvester is situated right next to Junction 9 the M1, on the A5 and has a large car park. I was passing Flamstead on my way to pick up inlaws from Luton Airport and as I had time to kill I stopped off here for lunch, it was a Sunday and just after midday. The restaurant at this time wasn’t very busy, there was luckily no wait for our table and although there was only 2 of us we were given a table for 4, which is always good as the tables for 2 can be a bit tight. The food was typical Harvester, not fantastic but nothing to complain about but what set this particular Harvester apart from others i’ve experienced was the genuinely friendly and eager service offered by the waiters.
