The boyff and I popped in here for lunch on a Saturday. It was rather empty to be fair and there were just a few locals stood at the bar, it seemed nice enough. So, we ordered our drinks and then took a seat to go through the menu. It was a decent enough menu, albeit quite pricey for what effectively is pub grub. The décor is nice, and the toilets are clean, there is free wifi, but it is rubbish for you are better off turning your wifi off. The food arrived and it was average. There was nothing wrong with it at all, but I am not sure if it justified the price tag of a pub outside of London. The fish portion was relatively small for the main course, the chips with the burger really did taste deep fat fried. I would go back here I guess, but there are most certainly pubs around this area that are better and cheaper.

This pub likes to attract the weekend trade for dinners and lunches. The place has good parking facilities and a small outside garden. Inside is spacious, but ceilings are low so mind your head if over 6ft tall. They have a nice selection of drinks and friendly atmosphere. Having been here for a Christmas lunch it appears they struggle to cope with a large group. Some of our food was forgotten, other food was cold on one side. We had a dessert with a plastic candle base in it. Apart from these major errors the place is generally quite good.

This is my favourite pub to go to for Sunday lunch. It’s on the St Albans Rd heading out of St Albans just at the beginning of the village of Redbourn. The atmosphere is that of a large country pub. It has a large menu and a blackboard which always has several specials. The food is good quality pub food but not ‘fine dining’. There is traditional food served alongside some dishes with a more modern twist and some hearty desserts too. There is a large outdoor area with lots of tables but it’s not grassy or particularly child friendly since it is right by the car park. My daughter has always been accommodated here with ease as have my vegetarian friends who have a reasonable selection to chose from.
