Good place to meet up with a group of people for drinks. A lot of meet up groups have nights out there too. I haven’t eaten there yet but the have a nice dining area. Drinks are flowing and lots of room with couches and tables.

My wife and I have used The Peahen pretty much every Sunday for 7 years! It’s a welcoming friendly place with great food and a good choice of beers and wines. The Sunday roast is fantastic but make sure you’re early as these tend to run out quickly. The patio garden is amazing in the summer. Serious sun trap but they even provide sun cream for you. The type of clients you get are all friendly and it really does have a nice vibe. The staff are fantastic, polite and really nice to get to know. All in all a great place to go to eat drink or chill

Barely looks like a pub having been gastrofied to within an inch of its life! The beer, Super Cooper, actually suited the pub quite well, being in excellent condition but ultimately bland.

we had lunch here recently while shopping in St Albans. There’s a massive choice of places to eat in this city centre, most seem to be Italian themed though and I fancied something else. Peahen is a gastro-pub which served up one of my pet hates. chips in something quirky. chips in cups, chips in mini-buckets, chips on anything other than a plate I find it massively pretentious. However, the pub was comfortable and service was great, the staff were eager to serve us at our table and the food was great quality.

Recently went to the Wine tasting evening fantastic evening had by all. Excellent value for money, £10 for a talk, lots of wine tasting and food as well! Learned a lot, the staff were all great and i will definitely be back to eat and order a delicious bottle of the White Rioja!

I remember enjoying many a Karaōke night in the Peahen before the refurbishment, the Karaōke has gone but there is still fantastic music entertainment, that includes a Jazz singer with an amazing voice(And for someone who is not a big Jazz fan, that is saying something) The interior with it’s re vamped look is stylish & glamorous with lots of gorgeous chandeliers, and the bar offers a large array of beverages. I recommend the menu, which has a choice to cater a broad range of tastes & pockets with both cheaper bar snack options & cappuccino, to your more typical gastro pub fare! There is also a board of constantly changing specials to try too & in the summer there is a lovely beer garden that often does BBQ’s or has entertainment like steel bands etc. The large beer garden also boasts a mini bar, so you don’t have to wander all the way back to the main bar, for a drink, if your drinking one of the more common drinks(Maybe not the strawberry cider!) The bar staff are polite & the doormen in the evening charming, you can expect a reasonably priced pint or spirit & mixer, but don’t expect cheap crisps or peanuts(£1.05 for a packet of Salty Dog crisps, you have got to be joking. stroll on!!) The pub attracts a good friendly crowd & I’d recommend if you haven’t been before.

Been here a few times. I don’t love it but it’s always reasonably good fun… more to do with the company though perhaps. It always seems mega hot in here which eggs me off. And the chairs are really hard. My bum still hurts days later. Had proper meal first time, was slightly above average. But perhaps not as amazing as menu suggests. I would eat here again if others wanted too. Skinny chips bit pants though. Had bar snacks on Sat night and they were pretty decent though. It was a 30th so we had a large section to ourselves which was fab(bookable by phone) and there was no charge for this. People started to creep in towards end of the night but we were merry by then so didn’t matter. There isn’t a dance floor so dint expect to get to bust any moves. Gets rammed busy as reasonable bar prices for St Albans. It’s a more mature crowd in here. There’s also a fairly nice outside bit too. Toilets are foul however. Broken loo seats, piss everywhere, general shabbiness. This needs addressing.

The peahen has good food menu, great wine menu and the atmosphere is great. Only issue is their turn around on staff!!! Nearly every time I have gone in there it seems always a new batch of faces. Took my mother out for a mothers day meal there and was very disappointed with the service, not only did it take someone twenty five minutes to give us a menu BUT they forgot to mention what soup of the is and didn’t take our drink order! Will treat my mother better someone else next time.

Use this place for work do’s. If you stay all night then fine. It gets noisy in the evening, so chatting in small groups only. Medium sized place. Large paved garden. Drink selection is good. Not a place for ales. Food looks a bit hyped and pricey, but i’ve not dabbled so it might be worth it. It is a busy pub so don’t expect good service. Bar staff are efficient though.

We used The Peahen before we moved to St Albans and still use it mainly on Sundays. Great value, supurb service and excellent food. Would recommend not leaving it too late on a Sunday because you don’t want to miss the roast!

I used to really like this place… Beautiful garden, lovely bar area, however, my opinion was completely spoilt last night! We went out for a meal with a few friends and apart from waiting at least 30 –40min for our starters one of them was wrong. The waitress tried to argue with us that it was our mistake not hers, she then reluctantly took the plate back to the kitchen. We waited for another 10−15min until Jo’s starter arrived(by that time, mine was cold). The mains took less time to arrive, thank God! But my pasta looked like it was from an Iceland microwave meal pack, tasted pretty much the same. When I asked the waitress if the pasta was fresh she said she would go and ask the chief(???), on her return she simply(but very convincingly…) relied yeah. I didn’t finish my main course… Ben’s burger was cremated and his chips were too salty I’m not a very good cook but I could have made a better burger with my eyes closed. Desserts were nice thou, especially mine and Jo’s crumble! Yum yum :) I don’t know what happened last night, the pub was not very busy at all… I will probably come back to the Peahen to have a drink in the garden(or some desserts) but I will never go back for a meal! Appalling service, horrible food! I don’t normally treat myself to a restaurant dinner and its so disappointing when you come back from a meal with friend and all you can do is complain.

Great welcome and a good range of beers and wines — the food in good and varied and has plenty of veriety. There are usually themed nights with live music evey Tuesday.

The Peahen is a really great pub for a night out. They have a dance floor and good music playing so that you can have a boogie. There is a wide selection of drinks and the food is delicious, and all of it is very reasonably priced. There is a beer garden out the back, which is really nice at summertime. It does sometimes get a bit crowded though on friday and saturday nights.

The Peahen has been a popular venue in St. Albans for many years as it has managed to avoid the rowdy crowd stage and has maintained is reputation as a nice place to go to have a drink. The bar is long and stretches down one side of the venue, as well as having a spacious beer garden. A great place to go for a a glass of wine or two with old chums from school. If you are a local you will most likely bump into your school pals here, but you probably knew that already. The food is great too so a gret place to visit after work or on your lunch break. The bar is reasonably priced and the door policy is usually over 21s on a Sat night. Full length mirror in the toilets so you check out your hump. Your hump your hump your hump. Check it out.
