The Hotel is nice; we had a sea view and the room was set up for my wife and I with an extra bed for our 6 year old. Nice tub in the bathroom, very clean room; great views, clean, new, the beds were comfy! Free Wi-Fi was a ++++, free movies and Sony PlayStation games also a +++ and the friendly staff was also a ++. Our room came with a free bottle of wine, free breakfast(full English breakfast), and each afternoon biscuits and cream made fresh and hot… total yum! They have an awesome deck area with sea views which in the summer has to be a great place to relax; especially with the bar right there. The beach is just a 5 minute walk and you have two to choose from and both offer great sand for the kids to build, their castles; the town itself is very small; there were no places to eat except a fish and chips shop that we could see; but we ate at the hotel each morning & night and were exploring in the days with the hotel being pretty close to the places we wanted to see(Falmouth for example). The restaurant wasn’t too expensive; which was also a +, and the bar area was nice with a large selection of draft beers. Plenty of room for parking, and we loved hearing the waves in the distance, sun bathing on our(semi small balcony) and how quiet the rooms were. The shower rocked! Before I go with the negatives, I personally liked the remote location and didn’t mind the narrow roads to get there; some other reviews I have read called out in them that the narrow roads were not liked very well; we thought this brought a «fun» side to our journey down from Ascot; if you fear one lane roads; then you would probably have a issue trying to get there. The negatives: The negatives were that the safe in the room was broken, there was no mini bar and/or refrigerator in the room; and no iron to get the winkles out of our clothes packed in the suit cases. The BIG negative was the food in the restaurant was inconsistent and the lack of service from the wait staff; some dishes we had were good(the Elk burger, the house salad, the scallops the first night(not so good the second), and the John Dory. The Filet was a total disappointment as it was cooked perfectly; but smothered with this butter gu sauce which just ruined it; I seriously felt like going into the kitchen to teach the chef how to make a steak; what are you thinking? The next big«?» was one of their appetizers; a fish cake; served on top of what tasted like lemon icing pudding; why would you serve a fish cake with lemon sugar sauce? Top Chef would have kicked the person off the show for sure on this one… no clue? Lastly; my son’s red sauce pasta dish was awful; almost as if the chef thought a red sauce should be semi creamy /pasty rather than just serving red sauce on top of pasta; kids are finicky; but I couldn’t make my son eat this dish. With that said, the waitress didn’t come back to the table after the meals were served the first night to check how we liked them, so we couldn’t send the dishes back which was big flaw to such a cool place. The waitress forgot to take our drink orders the second night… so although a nice staff, not that great of service and neither night was that busy.
