I recently visited St Ives for the first time — and it definitely won’t be the last. What a brilliant place! I stayed in a cottage overlooking St Ives harbour. Watching the tides lift the boats and drop them back onto the harbour floor each day was amazing. The beach in the harbour is clean and very family friendly. A word of warning for anyone with mobility difficulties — although the walk around the harbour is on the flat most of St Ives is extremely hilly. Boy do I mean extremely hilly! Also, if you intend to drive through St Ives be sure you can judge the width of your vehicle and that you don’t mind tourists bouncing off the bonnet! The streets are very small and winding. This provides a fabulous atmosphere when wandering and shopping but makes driving ‘interesting’. Parking in St Ives is difficult. there are a number of long stay car parks but they are all up hills and away from the harbour. The shops in St Ives are varied and not the usual run of the mill high street stores. There are loads of craft shops and galleries. Overall St Ives is a great place for families, there are numerous beaches, including the one at the harbour. There are shops and restaurants galore and plenty to keep the family entertained. A great place and a visit is highly recommended
