A wee update to say that macaree in stirling have updated and extended their range. they now have a small but very fine selection of 2ply laceweight yarn, and also stock yarn by some small companies such as Shetland’s Jamieson and Smith. Same good service and all the nice beginner-friendly things that were there before are still there too!

I first popped in here a while ago and whilst I’m not someone who can work magic with a yarn or even tell you the first thing about knitting, this place really did make me want to buy the necessary tools and get started! The shop is huge and has so many materials. Not to mention… So many colours. Like a rainbow! Knitters, I’m pretty sure you could get everything you need here. They even had some lovely glittery wool. — For the glamorous knitter! Perfect for a browse when in town. And great for craft fans who adore the handmade. There’s even some example pieces on display so you can see what the materials look like in their new found lives as gloves or hats! Lovely! Now to pick up those needles…

Really great selection of yarns for knitting and crochet! I had a lovely browse there recently and spent far too much money(on gorgeous Venezia sparkle yarn in different yummy colours). As my husband was waiting(slightly less than patiently) outside, I didn’t look over many of the other tantalising things on offer — which was probably just as well ;) The gentleman who served me was very helpful and courteous. You get the feeling that this shop has been there a long time and is well respected in the town. I have already used up a lot of my sparkly yarn and may need to have another trip back to Stirling soon to buy some more! Of course, they also do mail order and postage is free if you spend over £15.

This shop has been here for a long time and is well know for it’s quality and value. They sell a large range or wools and knitting patterns, sewing eqiptment, buttons etc. Staff are full of knowlede of their products and are chatty and friendly. The shop also stocks school wear for local schools and has a small selection of trousers and skirts for Primary school kids. They will order in goods you need that they don’t currently sell. They sell name labels for childrens uniforms, iron on ones can be made then & there or they can order sew on labels which take 7 – 10 days. Prices are reasonable & the shop is clean and tidy.
