Good local fish & chip shop, took an age to fry the fish but at least we knew it was fresh! Very generous portions of chips and mushy peas and overall the prices are relatively cheap. Has the appearance of being clean and modern too(nice bags!) which is a good change. Will definitely come back for my next takeaway chip supper.

It’s good, fast, and friendly service. Not the best I’ve ever had but I’ll definitely be back.

Fish and Chips is a funny one. You can basically get 3 different grades of quality in my mind which range from the top as: 1. amazing attention to detail, great quality ingredients, light batter, tasty sides and chips that are fresh and cooked just right. 2. ok but not really going too far in terms of real standout moments, they generally taste fine but the average ones tend to come in at a fairly low price — i. e £3ish for fish so you don’t mind so much. 3. pretty dire, heavy batter, soggy chips, tasteless sides and yet still no real difference in price. I’m happy to report that The Davenport is firmly in the middle category. We had tasty fish and chips that weren’t too bad at all and came in at about £5 each for fish, chips and mushy peas — great value if not as good as somewhere like Fosters. I’d go here again out of convenience as it’s probably the best within walking distance and the staff were friendly but there’s definitely better if you’re prepared to jump in the car.
