Webberleys is an independent bookshop that seems to be thriving despite the rise of Waterstones and the Internet booksellers. It’s my favourite bookshop in Stoke, it’s absolutely vast. A great many sections and a better range than Waterstones, especially for local books. There’s also a cracking art and craft section upstairs which sells any artist material you’re after, short of a dead cow cut in half or something. The layout is quite good, things aren’t cluttered, though there was some dodgy flooring in there last time I was in.

This is a great book store in Hanley town centre and well worth a look each time you go to town. There are two levels and the top floor also has a large amount or art and craft materials. You really can get lost in here for hours. Prices are much cheaper than the neighbouring waterstones.

A really big bookshop in Hanley, which possibly suffers from ebing a bit out the way from the other shopping sectors in Hanley. It has an excellent section of genres and types of books, as well as a good section of audiobooks. The staff are very helpful, and will go out of their way to help you find the books you want. I’ve also been lucky enough to get several books signed when they;ve had seopcial signing mornings in the shop. The arts and crafts department is very very good, and caters perfectly for anyone from kids in primary school to students doing art degree. The quality of materials is as good as at any specialist shop, with the added bonus of it being a bit cheaper!

Excellent, large bookshop. Ony downside i have is seeing how much i’ve spent everytime i go in I like that it has a large ‘local section, and makes sure that each department has a good selection of local knowledge, authors and information. The shop is spaced over 3 floors, and all of the aisles are well spaced to alow people to getpast each other easily. Also means that you can sit down and read a chapter or 2, although his does appear to be slightly frowned upon! They are also happy to order in books whenever i have asked, and normally take a deposit, although this may have more to do with the price of the reference books i was ordering. I have also seen a few signings, and signed bokos on sale.

This bookshop has been around for years and has managed to keep going in the face of a Waterstone’s recently landing nearby. It’s the best bookshop in town and has a huge art and crafts department which is excellent, offering everything from kids wax crayons to artist quality canvases. They also offer a printing service from the third floor. The staff are pretty helpful, and the prices are fairly competitive. The shop’s biggest problem is that it isn’t very close to the shopping centre and in poor weather is a bit of a hike, other than that, it’s always been pretty good.
