Garrick Inn

Stop by for a (shakes)beer or some wine and you’ll find it fairly easy to grab a seat — we went around 9pm on a Saturday night and there were plenty of cosy areas to settle down in.
The place has a good vibe and seemed to attract pub-​goers of all ages which is a good sign.
The pub is a nice place to visit, and when we were there a bat decided to head on in too! That was quite an event and took several minutes for it to find the exit :)

The Garrick Inn claims to be the oldest pub in Stratford-​upon-​Avon, and it is certainly a very old building indeed, absolutely beautiful!
Inside, in the dining area as opposed to the bar at the front, it loses a little of its charm and despite the lovely old photos etc, it is another chain pub with an identical menu to at least three other pubs in the town. We stopped by for lunch and ordered sandwiches. I had the rump steak, which was okayish, though very mean on the meat, and my boyfriend had the shredded duck and hoisin. The main problem was that they were drenched in butter. I love butter, but this was overwhelming. And since when did butter go with hoisin?
Stop by for a drink by all means, it’s a very nice venue right in the centre of town, but save your pennies to eat elsewhere.

I’ve never eaten here, but the atmosphere was lovely and it was a great place to sit and have a pint. The building is hundreds of years old and has been a pub/​inn almost as long as it has been standing. It gets crowded on weekends and seating is limited — since we weren’t eating, it was quite hard to get a table on a Saturdayl But if you can find a seat, I recommend staying in it all night, and having good conversation in the cozy, dimly lit (in a nice atmospheric way) pub. I like the cider that they have on tap, I’d never tried it before.

However, the building that houses the pub is stunning. If you love classic Tudor architecture and styling then it’s worth at least a visit and a pint. Otherwise, head for the Duck!

i wanted a quick drink before, we went for dinner. What a pretty looking pub. If you like Greene King ales, what a stroke of luck. There are 5 on offer, I was well pleased. Good service, from well trained and knowledgeable bar staff. And they had mulled wine, which would have been welcome based by many judging upon the cold spell we experienced,. One word of warning, it’s a very busy pub. Hard to get seated, friendly clientele it seems as well.
Charming, and antiquated looking décor accentuate the welcome place to partake in some merriment out of the cold, and in Shakespeare country too. Love it!

Having eaten here several times in the past few years I have never been disappointed. I usually have the beer battered fish which is very tasty, filling and extremely good value for money. A very friendly team of waitresses make the whole experience very enjoyable.

A lovely authentic old public house in the centre of Stratford. We popped in to have lunch. The place gets really busy and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We had some of the speciality sandwiches which were great. Lots of various types of special beers and bitters to be had. A must for all visitors to the town.

When you dine in this pub, you are literally sitting in the same seats that William Shakespeare sat in. It was built, I believe, in the 1500s. HOW COOL IS THAT?!! This is as authentic as things get in England. Just look at the picture of the exterior of this pub. It’s magnificent. I dined here twice while in Stratford. The food was fine (my memory is not that great so I don’t remember exactly what I had), but the ambiance alone was magical and worth a visit. It took me back to another time and place, and for someone who majored in English in college, this was a phenomenal experience.
My only regret is that I do not like beer or ale, so I feel like I miss out on a bit of that experience. But so very cool to hang out here. Oh, and to my pleasant surprise, England started banning smoking in restaurants and pubs by the time I visited in 2004, so that was such a treat for me and my lungs.

This pub is a fabulous looking historic building in the centre of Stratford, with a black and white timbered frontage. There is a small cosy ‘snug’ bar at the front with a TV, which is where we sat when we drank here recently. There was also another bar behind which we guess was a lot larger from the ambient noise, but we did not investigate. We were pulled in from the street by the signs for mulled wine, as it was really cold outside and we were killing time before the restaurant opened. We were made to feel very welcome by the barman and would not hesitate in going back again.

Lovely pub one of the oldest in Stratford. I have only ever drank in there but the food always looks great. It is located in town, its easy to walk to but harder if your travelling in as you have to find a parking space.

The Garrick Inn looks so imposing from the road, it’s an old black and white timber framed building that just asks to be photographed. Its Stratford’s oldest pub so full of character both inside and out. We managed to get in for lunch here but it gets very popular. The menu had a good choice on it, and we didn’t have to wait too long for the food, we were sat tucked into a corner, it was so cosy we didn’t want to leave. We both ordered something different and the food was really tasty, not too expensive and really filling. It’s worth a visit if you’re in Stratford, we’d certainly go back.

This has always been a favourite of mine. My only complaint is that it is almost too popular which in this day and age for a pub is nothing short of a miracle. I used to drink here as a late teenager and it was always part of a well established rout. Howver, i am glad to see that it is now a more mature clientele and the locals I have met there are great. the staff are clearly busy but always seemt o make time for a smile and courteous and prompt service. try the pub grub and the sunday roast would be my top recommendation

Having printed off a walking tour of the town we stumbled across the Garrick Inn, half way through. We where pretty cold, starving hungry and it being Sunday and all really fancied a good roast dinner. It’s a beautiful old black and white building which dates back to the 14^th Century! It also claims to be one of the oldest in the town. Taking our chances we decided to pop in.
The place was heaving! We asked about a table and although we hadn’t booked (although it really looked like you should) they managed to fit us in. The staff where excellent, especially as it was so busy. We both ordered a roast beef dinner, which came it pretty good time and was gorgeous.
Considering it’s on the tourist route it really doesn’t compromise on quality (unlike some others!). We were very very impressed.
Warm and full we continued on our walk.
