It’s a hot Saturday afternoon and yes, I went for a curry. Some may think I’m crazy, others will understand that before any football match a wealth of food intake is necessary. Bollywood is one of several newer curry houses to have opened in Sutton Coldfield in recent years, to rival the more long standing businesses. Me and my hubby came here with some friends one late Saturday afternoon. We had booked a table, but as the place was so quiet we could chose where we wanted to sit. We opted to go upstairs so we could look out onto the high street and watch the world go by. This also gave us access to a small smoking area, much appreciated by the couple of smokers we had in our group. This is esentially a first floor balcony overlooking the rear of the premises. Like I said you may think us crazy for currying it in the sun but the interior was cool and comfortable and the curries went down a treat. Some of the portions were a little tight and the naan breads were a bit dinky but overall we had a good time. NOTE: Bollywood is not a licensed restaurant so we took our own booze, handily we took advantage of an off licence just a couple of doors away. Don’t forget your bottle opener!

I’ll get straight to the point: This one of the best Indian restaurants in Sutton, which is quite an achievement when you think about how many there are round there. It was recommended to my girlfriend and I by some friends after our favoured Indian went downhill. Although quite small, the interior of this relatively new Indian(I believe it’s about three years old) is comfortable and the service is excellent. Most importantly, the food is simply beautiful and very reasonably priced. I’m not the world’s most experimental curry eater, but I can definitely highly recommend the chicken balti, pathia and dansak(although maybe not all at once). The sauces and little pot of onions that come with the pappadums are so delicious that I’m prepared to wheel out clichés like mouth-watering for them. You can also take your own booze in, which can be purchased from the excellent Michael’s off-licence a couple of doors away.

Providing excellent takeaway and delivery services and a spacious, comfortable indoor dining area, this high street Balti House is a great place to visit whilst in Sutton Coldfield. I visited recently for a family evening meal and was remarkably impressed by the quality of both the restaurant’s service and its food. The waiters were polite, friendly and even a little entertaining, cracking the odd joke at our tableside and exchanging pleasantries with my family and myself without being too intrusive or irritating as we enjoyed our food. The chicken madras I ordered was flavourful and aromatic, and the food was brought to our table piping hot and smelling delicious within just 10 minutes or so of ordering. With its elegant set-up, gorgeous food and top-notch table service, this Indian eatery is a highly impressive, and I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to eat out here again in the near future.
