Garden King

This is a small but quirky local garden centre with really friendly staff. We’ve just come back from seeing their Christmas displays which are fabulous. There is an animated polar bear display at the bottom which my children loved! The whole garden centre looks magical, my little ones loved the snow that falls when you enter the Christmas marketplace. Elsewhere in the centre they stock a nice range of plants and some lovely gift ideas. We were given a voucher at the till which had two coupons for a free bauble and a free bird seed feeder. On the back it listed dates for the diary and we were excited to see that live reindeer and father christmas would be there later this month. Overall we love coming here, unfortunately the tea room is closed at the moment and the toilet facilities could be improved but definitely worth a visit!

Garden King on the outskirts of Newhall, on the road to the A444 is a garden centre that is celebrating its ten year anniversary. An expansive car park opens onto an outdoor area selling compost, which leads into the main entrance where the tills and advice desks are located. This area also has an impressive range of bird food and feeders, as well as an expansive range of seeds and plant food. The main outdoor area is partially covered, with plants that are both reasonably priced and healthy, which cannot be said for all garden centres. There is also quite a variety of specimens, considering the size of the garden centre. At the rear of the main plant area is a sizeable aquatics shop, where you can buy fish, aquatic plants, pond liners etc.
Garden King also has a small tearooms/​restaurant that sells hot drinks, light bites, as well as hot dinners. It also sells Vancouver Oak Furniture, as well as other assorted items for the home, i.e. mirrors, lamps etc. One last thing you must look out for as you enter the car park are the rather large signs, that have obviously been designed as a homage to Sid James in the Carry-​on films!

This Garden Centre is located on the A444. It is not the biggest but it is more than adequate for buying plants, they have an excellent variety and you will not come out of here empty handed. The staff are very friendly and offer loads of advice and guidance. They also have their own car park.

Garden King has joined forces with the Planters Garden Centre group and I personally feel that it has gone downhill since then. However, they do now stock a good range of plants, gardening goods, gifts and nick naks.
They have an indoor area selling the gifts and the gardening food, seedlings, bulbs, electrial lights and then there is an outdoor area for the plants and shrubs and then at the back end of the outdoor area is the garden ornaments, ponds and sheds. They also sell hot tubs.
There is a café area situated to the rear and side of the garden centre and there is also a good Aquarium part towards the rear of the outdoor area. Plants are of a good quality but are often a little on the expensive side.

This is a really good garden centre, has a aquarium part at the rear which stocks a lot of good fish, the flowers and tree’s from here is very good quality, and dirt cheap aswell. Also if you get the free paper in the area there is always a money off coupon for here aswell.

great garden centre. plenty of choice. why travel to burton when you can go here. friendly and helpful staff. worth a visit next time you want some plants or garden furniture.

This is a great garden centre especially for complete novices who have not got a clue about gardening. The staff were really helpful and give us superb advice about plants and even helped us choose what we needed for our garden, they also gave advice of how to plant and where to situate them. All of the plants are reasonably priced and look well taken care of. The plants were brought are still alive and kicking. This is well worth a visit even if its just for an hour out, the centre itself has a couple of inside greenhouses and outside sections. The car park is quite small but adequate for the centre.
