We had a fantastic family meal at The Mill Wheel. Our meals were all really tasty and made with quality ingredients. We were able to talk and eat in a lovely friendly atmosphere. The staff were also really helpful. We would definitely return to the Mill Wheel for another family meal.

will never go back!!! After waiting 50 minutes for meal, it was cold. Yorkshire pud was so hard couldn’t eat it!!! We made a complaint to the manager Jackie who insisted that the food was fine and that the customer is not always right and that they have a mitchelin star(which they have not). I have never known anyone be so rude. We will never go back and will make sure that no one we know ever does either.

Have spent memorable times in this upstairs restaurant with excellent food and service sometimes with just my husband and I and other times with our grown up children and their spouses. My husband wanted to take me there this evening for a cosy meal and as I have always enjoyed the high quality of food and presentation I got all dressed up and spent all day looking forward to the experience. However although there were only six people in the restaurant(which at first I thought was unusual for a Friday evening but still felt assured we would receive wholesome food). I ordered the Spanish muscles and half of them were not even opened(pretty dangerous) they were all the size of my little fingernail after having been assured by the waitress that they were large muscles like New Zealand green lipped muscles when I ordered. They arrived smothered in a hot chilli tomato sauce that took the surface off my tongue — so inedible. The roll that accompanied this starter was very nice. So far a glass of water — half a glass of wine and a bread roll which took 40minutes to arrive. Then we both ordered what we usually do for main course when we go to the Mill Wheel — sirloin steak. What we received was a tesco syle minute steak that was raw and not even half an inch thick with a wad of fat up one end which left only about 3inches inches of raw steak(bearing in mind my husband likes his steak medium to well done). Well I did complain as we both left all our main meal — served with sauté potatoes that would not be enough to feed a child at lunch time and one measly portion of something that resembled overcooked vegetables that someone must have taken some trouble to grow. I am so disappointed that a pub restaurant would think that people would accept this kind of food on a plate let alone pay for it. Would someone please take note and do something about the chef they are employing and go back to their usual meat suppliers. How sad — it just means a beautiful restaurant that will remain empty.

Given the good Qype reviews that the Old Mill Wheel has had, we popped in today for lunch. The leather-sofa-woodburning-stove combo is always a winner for me, especially on a cold November day, and the water wheel is quite a curiosity. The baguettes were excellent — fresh bread, warm, tender pork and great sauce. My wife reported similar satisfaction with her steak and onion baguette. We will definitely be going back for a full-on meal soon.

The Mill Wheel, just on the outskirts of Hartshorne is a popular pub with drinkers and diners alike. A large well set out car park leads you to the entrance, with its magnificent working water wheel — a great window into its past life as a working water mill. The bar has an informal type setting, large comfy sofas, and an eclectic mix of different type tables. Along with the roaring open fire, it all adds to the sociable, chilled out and relaxed feel of the Mill Wheel. A variety of bar snacks and a good range of hot of cold drinks, make it an ideal place to have lunch. The upstairs restaurant area has more formal classical air to it. Bathed with light during the day, it has a very contemporary feel. The menu is a la carte and has a great variety of different dishes, which are refreshed with daily and weekly specials. Although there is a deal on two courses from a restricted menu, the restaurant is still fairly pricey. The food is of a high quality though, the vegetarian Lasagne with a Swiss Chard base and the lamb tagine are particular favourites. Some of the dishes can be a bit style over substance though, but on the whole the food is full of flavour and very individual. A great place to go for a special occasion.

This restaurant is superb and well worth a visit, it is situated in Hartshorne and has its own car park. The menu is varied and has some great dishes available. The prices are very reasonable for the high standard of quality food you get. The drinks can be a bit expensive but this is a great place for a special occasion.

This restaurant is very nice although quite expensive but I guess you get what you pay for. The menu is a la carte and the drinks can be quite expensive but this place is great for special occasions. The staff are very nice and helpful especially if you are stuck for choice and not sure what to have.

The Old Mill Wheel is a place that you could easily drive straight past without noticing it was there; but for those who do know it’s there are the lucky ones. When you enter the pub you are greeted by the large working water wheel and a cosy bar with an open fire which I think is a lovely way to begin your afternoon/evening. As the previous reviews say, the décor is nice; wooden beams, dark colours and the open fire make a cosy setting downstairs but upstairs is bright, reasonably spaced and warm. I seriously recommend eating here. Being a foodie I appreciate quality meals and the old mill wheel serves up a treat. The seasonal home cooked meals do not simply rely on standard pub grub like pie and chips or bangers and mash, rather you will find Loin of pork wrapped in Parma ham, honey & thyme glazed belly pork, baked potato cake roasted figs and cider jus. The prices reflect the quality but if you don’t mind paying £10−16 for a main then this is a great place to eat.

The Mill Wheel is still with a working water wheel. It was converted into a pub with the water wheel restored and now a feature of both the traditional bar, with open fires, and the beamed restaurant, where the food is excellent. The rooms are ensuite and added later on to the pub. It offers quality accomodation, a traditional bar and great food. What more could you want! Doubles from £50 makes for excellent pricing.

This is a really nice place to go and eat on a special ocassion. The meals are really good, home cooked, nice food that caters for the steak and chips eater to the Sunday roast eater. The downstairs area is quite small but nice and cosy if you are there on a quiet night. If we go out for family meals we sit in the upstairs room and it just has a nice atmosphere to it. This is a converted Mill so there are plenty of big chunky wooden beams and little nooks to hide away in with a burning fire. There is also a big old Mill wheel(hence the name of the place) housed behind a glass wall which is in full working order so you can stand and admire that. They have a large selection of beers, bottled and on tap and a good wine list. They also offer meal deals at good prices too. Plenty of car parking to the rear of the building.

Set in the middle of picturesque Hartshorne, this pub is most definatly worth a visit. It has a working mill wheel as you walk through the door which has been lovingly restored. The pub is ideal for a cosy drink on a winters(or summers) night but also serves fabulous meals. They do a cracking sunday lunch at very reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and very helpful. You can also hire out the room where they serve meals for christenings and weddings etc, and as you can see the mill wheel its certainly a talking point at any party. Well worth a visit.

This is such a beautiful little pub. When you walk in there it’s like going back in time. There are low beamed ceilings and big comfy leather sofas to sit on while you enjoy your drink. It is called the Mill Wheel because it still has a working Mill Wheel which is integrated into the décor by being surrounded by a big glass case. It is so relaxing sat there with your friends on a big comfy leather sofa watching the mill wheel turn around. There is a dining area upstairs too. The food is very very tasty. Definitley definitley go there!
