Huge iron age fort on top of the downs. Very exposed and windy in winter. Great base for numerous walks along downs ridges, with superb views over Swindon to the North. Even the walk around the periphery of the fort is a useful little workout. On the Ridgeway National Trail.

We use to cycle up there with my family. Has gone down I’m afraid. Last time we went, the public toilets desperatly needed some attention. There was some litter scattered about. I wouldn’t be dogmatic about who’s responsibility it is to keep it clean. This use to be a great place, and it is sad that the public who go there for their enjoyment cannot respect the site and feel the need to desecrate it. However there is a small businesses selling refreshments and providing some form of camping facilities, entertaining events seems to also have been organised during the summer. So if a profit is made by these businesses, should they not be made partly responsible for the maintenance of the site? It has definetely got worse since all of this is going on.

My favourite place. A great place to go for a walk/run/cycle/kite flying — it all goes on here. Passed by the Ridgeway long distance path and numerous other paths and tracks the choice is endless. There’s a café/parking here so always a snack/meal and hot drink available. Tables are outside. Several events held here during the summer months — look out for the kite flyers who meet here regularly. Also a couple of long distance running relays pass through.
