This review only covers the restaurant(not the Inn) — we had a recent work event here. The food was nice enough(solid three star Unilocal I think), especially considering the big group of people. I am adding one star for the beautiful venue — we sat in a little parlor, one big table, just for our group. Absolutely lovely setting, and the private setting allowed for comfortable conversation. Unfortunately they did keep us waiting too long in the lounge/common area — at least 45 minutes after the time we’d booked. Then the way they took orders and served the dishes was odd. We had a limited menu(no problem!), 3 choices each for starter, main, and dessert. They asked each person for his or her choices. But they took our orders while we were still in the common area. So basically they just had a count, how many of each dish. When we finally went in and sat down at our table — they started coming out with the dishes as they were prepared, asking: ‘Duck liver?’ and passing out the dishes to people who claimed them. Seemed a bit … i don’t know, amateurish? These are relatively minor issues, and good food in a beautiful room were more important. all in all, especially considering the rather limited selection of places around here, it’s a solid choice.

The Pear Tree at Purton is a restaurant /hotel. This is what I would call posh. Not usually the kind of place I would go for as I didn’t really know what half the menu was! Although, when my food came out I did thoroughly enjoy it. The staff are very friendly and the Gentleman who owns the place is more than willing to share the history of it with you if you just ask him. The Pear Tree is surrounded by lovely grounds and you can have a lovely view whilst eating your meal. I think for the service and quality of your food the price is quite good.

Restaurant and Hotel in Purton just about 4 miles from Swindon. A bit ‘over done’ in terms of décor a bit pink and flowery. However, the food is excellent and the setting is very ‘country house’. Lovely gardens so well worth a visit in the summer. Popular for wedding receptions.
