Having made a dinner reservation based on a recommendation(and an overnight stay in a nearby hotel) we were pleased to be received with such a warm service throughout our visit and what was clearly a devoted attention to detail regarding our menu choices. The terrine was rich without being too far to the salty side. The pan-fried scallops with black pudding and cauliflower purée were delectable in providing just the right amount of crispness while still remaining spongy and fresh. The combination of black pudding and cauliflower purée was rather piquant and provided an interesting compliment to the dish. The lamb shank was prepared with a meticulous attention to its overall delicacy, with thick rustic gravy. The mushroom wellington was full-bodied in its nutty flavour and was rather impressive in size. Regardless, the light pastry lacked a stodgy substructure and the accompanying roast vegetables were anything beside bland. To finish we enjoyed a slice of the chocolate pie and a bowl of lemon sorbet. The pie was well-presented and of a decent quality. The sorbet was splendidly tart. Despite a booking during a peak time the restaurant was enjoyable quiet and we were generally left in peace(although service felt as though it were constantly to hand). Both qualities contributed to the intimate atmosphere. The elaborate furnishings to suit the ornate style of the building were appreciated. Needless to say we were not disappointed at all with the entire experience.

Called in for a drink on the way through. In a nice central spot opposite the covered market. The bar is nice with a reasonable looking menu. The drinks included two ‘farmhouse’ ciders at £2.20 which is good value.

The Snooty Fox is a hotel/bar based in Tetbury town centre. I have never stayed in the hotel rooms, although having gotten lost looking for the toilets they look like they would be pretty nice. I do however visit the bar/restaurant on a fairly regular basis. Whenever in Tetbury this is the pub I seem to end up having a drink in. The staff are friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere. When you enter there is a bar to the left where you can sit and have a drink. There is also an area to the right, with a lovely fireplace and board games if you fancy having a go. This section is lovely on a cold winters night. You can also go through to the back and have a drink/meal. There is a more formal restaurant at the very back — think they also use this for functions as have seen a Christmas party going on before. There is a resident dog — a Great Dane — he is so friendly. As you can imagine it is a dog friendly pub, so people can bring the family pet along for a drink too My only complaint is that you used to be able to buy nibbles from the bar — crisps, nuts etc and they have stopped doing these. I went in last week and was a bit disappointed as the nuts that they used to serve were covered in a chilli coating and were really yummy! Lovely place for a quiet drink in the centre of Tetbury.
