Lovely little spot to sit and enjoy a nice cocoa or cup of tea. I met some new friends at the James Herriot Museum(they were from Northern Ireland!) and we stopped here after for a cup before I had to catch my train to Edinburgh. The cocoa I had was wonderful… cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top of it… I’d never had that, but I’ll have it again! The food looked good as well though I didn’t try it… lovely spot!

Located in the centre of the town, next to the bus-stop, York Tea Rooms is THE place to go for high quality snacks and lunches. Sandwiches are made from fresh baked loaves and slices are hand cut(giving you a substantial sandwich!), and fillings include Wensleydale and cranberry and Yorkshire Ham and mustard. The coffees and teas are from the Taylors range so high quality. The front of the coffee shop faces out into the square and is a great place to sit and have a toasted teacake and watch as people come and go. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the service swift, the atmosphere is that of a posh place, and while I have managed to get in there with a small pram, I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a noisy toddler! The prices reflect the menu and the average sandwich is around £4.95 so not a cheap snack. Highly recommended for a quiet coffee and snack to break up your shopping or with a friend.
