For my first taste of Turkish food, I was pretty excited. Especially having heard such good things from local friends. We went on a Friday night and the place was packed. There was a mix up with our table but this was quickly put right, and we were soo seated browsing the extensive menu. For starters I had the vine leaves. There was a dsitinct lack of the promised pine nuts as the vine leaves were only filled with rice. They were tender, tasty, but a bit bland overall. Shame. I should have ordered the hummus as that was delicious(I tasted a bit from Mr Ting’s plate). Having passed the open kitchen to spy the kebabs cooking on their skewers over open coals, I already knew that I wanted to order one. Just which?! I opted for fish. The portion for this was stupendous. It could have fed two people easily. Not only that — but the food was all cooked perfectly. Not a single morsel of fish was overcharred, tough, or dry. And the king prawns were divine — the best I’ve ever tasted. The atmosphere was lovely — although very busy and the tables were nestled in close together. So if you like a bit of personal space when you dine, maybe ask to be seated on the edges of the room where you might be able to breathe a little easier! Overall, I really enjoyed this visit. And it’s given me a taste for more Turkish food.

This review is long overdue as I have since left the UK, but I had to come on here to sing Shish’s praises. I finally went to Shish two weeks ago after hearing good things. It’s usually packed, but parking on a Sunday afternoon was easy, and we were seated immediately. From our spot to the left of the entrance, we could actually see the chefs taking orders and grilling the meat. The servers were so attentive and friendly, and the food service was incredibly fast despite us being a group of six; our platters came out just as we had finished our cold starters. Now I highly recommend Shish’s platters for those less acquainted with Turkish cuisine. You get to taste a bit of everything at the same price of individual plates or less. We ordered the Chef and Family platters, each of which came with a cold meze starter(hummus, cous cous, tzatziki), followed by the main platter(lamb + chicken shish, lamb ribs, chicken wings, and adana kebabs) and Turkish salad. It was great! We were so full and content, and even managed to pack half a platter for take away. Its rare to see such large portions at such great quality. I will definitely be back next time I’m in town!

This converted restaurant used to be a Post Office once upon a time. The new owners have converted it into a stylish Turkish restaurant with plenty of space to spread out in. The food is exceptionally good, perfectly cooked meat and fish kebabs and even battered fish and chips, which is a smart move for kids. The salad side dishes are excellent and taste really fresh. A starter and main course with a bottle of wine works out at around £25 pp inc VAT ex tip, which is very reasonable given the quality and amount of food. A word of caution, the helpings are huge, so make sure you are hungry or consider sharing.
