Came in just after the kitchen closed on a weekday, 8pm, got a beer then went to order food and they said no food… The kitchen guy(cook? manager?) was at the bar and offered to make me something anyhow — I asked what was good, he said burger. He was right, it was a great burger. Prompt service and decent price. Clean, big, modern. No piano was playing tonight though.

An upmarket joint catering to the mass market. Nice, central town house location, large interior and a very pleasant beer garden to the rear. You might say this is P&P by numbers but this is a chain, like Pizza Express, that does it well. TW has a few classy boozers with equally classy gardens. Other contenders are Sankeys, The Beau Nash &TN4. Justifiably busy at the weekends, with a late night licence that makes it the preferable alternative to Beluga/Davs, the High Street rite-of-passage-club-from-hell. There is a dance floor downstairs though I have yet to treat it to my trademark Electric Boogaloo…

No surprises here; you always know what you’re getting with the P&P. Late drinking, generally. I can’t fault the place, it’s got a nice garden, drinks are reasonable if you remember the automatic double rule, toilets are good, and the staff are friendly. Nearly there, but just not quite.

I’ve never really ‘got’ this place. Small bar, automatic doubles leading to over charging and over drinking. The one thing going for it is the patio area out back which can be a welcome thing in the Summer. Not a particularly atmospheric place. Very much in the vain of most other Pitcher & Piano style bars it has very little to say for or against it — and in that very statement I’m steered against. A late license makes this a viable alternative to Beluga when need be, but for a good night in here bring a decent crowd with you.

Very popular at the weekends, this is your average P & P, with a nice outside space that could be put to good use in the summer months. Unfortunately they usually rope off most the the space except for Friday and Saturday nights so its only used by smokers. Instead of their nice back garden — they open up some seats by the roadside, seems a bit stupid to me! Expect to queue at the weekends but other than that its is pretty quiet. Mondays — Wednesdays they have 2 for 1 cocktails which is great. There is a good range of interesting cocktails and its good value this way. At weekends its is rammed with people and there is a dancefloor downstairs. They also allow private parties to have sections of the place roped off.
