I visited the Angels hotel tonight for dinner with my wife and our four friends and as I hadn’t eaten all day after a 12 hour working day I was looking forward to my dinner and my company, unfortunately the company was the only good thing about the night. My starter arrived which was beef satay and straight away I spotted a hair in my meal but as I was out with some good friends I hadn’t seen for a while I just asked for the serving staff to take it away and let my friends finish there starters. The manager came out and asked if he could get me anything else and I tried to be understanding and told him it was fine and I would just try my main meal when it arrived and when it did it looked great madera chicken with mash and veg and so I started to tuck in and if the first instance wasn’t enough r there at the bottom of my plate was another two hairs stuck to my plate. This is the worst experience I have suffered at a restaurant ever and my friends all stooped there meals also. I strongly suggest you avoid this restaurant for your own health and safety as this to me is just scratching the surface of the real issues in the kitchen here. If I could have give the place negative stars I would.

We went for a wee trip to meet my dad, and chose Uddingston as our place to eat. I picked Angels for its reputation amongst locals. It’s a bit of a tardis, it looks like a old Victorian sandstone house from the front, but it expands back and to the side — a lot. We walked through the nicely-appointed and bright housey bit, the bar, and into the large, smart, dimly-lit restaurant. We were greeted pleasantly and shown to our table. The A la Carte menu looked pretty appetising and I went for Scallops with Black Pudding to start and the Chilli Chicken & Chorizo Stir Fry for the main, Miss Nibs went all old-school and had a Classic Prawn Cocktail and Beef Stroganoff. The scallops came quickly and were extremely creamy, almost slightly undercooked for my taste, but good, the plate covered in a honey, lemon and chilli glaze in a lattice pattern. Pretty good start I thought. My partner’s prawn cocktail was nice also. The mains came in good time too, and she enjoyed the beef stroganoff. She eats quickly and this leads on to the next point. Both my dad and myself eat less quickly, and by the time I was even close to finishing my plate the food was cold, why, well because the plate it was served on hadn’t been warmed. Bit of a cardinal sin that! As father said the sign of a disorganised kitchen? The stir-fry itself was served with too much rice, and to be honest given the fact there was chilli AND chorizo in it, it lacked zing and was a bit insipid, it was not unpleasant, but not the fire-breathing torture fest I was hoping for. We had a nice pint in the bar afterwards. Would I go back? For sure. Was it great? No it was pretty decent. Gotta be a three overall.

Drove by this place on numerous occasions, and eventually decided to pop in and see how the food was. It was amazing. Been a few times now and always tried something different. The food is served in good sized portions, with a good price, even better at dinner time as most meals are 2 for 1. The staff are always friendly and always making sure you are happy. Very reasonably priced.

I re-visited Angels last week, at around 4 in the afternoon when most of the eateries in Uddy were shut. I was famished, and remembered that I didn’t hold the food in high regard the last time, but this was not the time to be fussy! We were seated in a very busy, very nice dining room and given really cool menus. They were ringbindered with tabs for starters, mains and deserts. I liked that little touch. I decided to have the beer battered fish and chips for main. It came out after about 15 – 20 minutes. This was a long wait but I hoped it would ensure that the meal had just been cooked freshly. It was very well presented, the fish was huge and the batter incredibly crispy, just how I like it. It was a real treat, and I struggled to finish it(Lord knows I gave it a good go) I decided to be a gannet and have a pud too. Well, it was a Monday afternoon after all, what better occasion, right? I went for the caramel shortcake sundae; a rich vanilla ice cream, with butterscotch sauce and melted caramel shortcake. Oh. My. Gawd. It was beautiful. I was literally licking the glass when I finished! The bill was a modest £30 for 2 drinks, 2 starters and 2 mains. They have an awesome buy one main meal, get another free deal during the week(Mon-Thu) but because we went on a holiday, it wasn’t on. I will definitely be coming back again to take advantage of that!
