I usually get my morning exercise in at the Sports Centre on campus for a couple reasons. One; it’s less busy. Two; there’s those nifty cross-trainers, and three; I don’t have to climb Boiler House Hill to get there. I just feel less like hopping on a treadmill after that ridiculous up-hill hike. However, as it was the only facility that opened up a few times during the holiday, I decided to go — and have ended up becoming a fairly regular attendee. The equipment is definitely better — I find the weight room on the ground floor a bit intimidating, but can tell there’s more variety and everything is newer. The cardio room on the first floor also has more selection(less elbow room, but more selection) and almost every machine can hook you up with your own television. Without an i-pod or earbuds, however, I’ve been listening to the sound of all the treadmills and rowing machines. They create this almost meditative whir when it’s busy, so it feels like a more communal experience than the lonely old Sports Centre. That’s part of the reason I’ve been going back. The other reason is(aak!) I’ve signed up for the half marathon in February. I ran 5.25km on the treadmill this morning so I’m…almost ready, right?
