I’ve been to a few Chiquitos over the years. They seem to vary in quality and I’d pretty much given up on them, but we were out on Boxing Day and thought we’d give it a go. There was no wait and we were quickly shown to a table. Our waitress came over with our free popcorn to nibble on while we decided, and took our drinks order. Our drinks came quickly and she came back and took our order. I had 2 starters — pulled pork tacos and jalapeño poppers. My husband had some massive plate of food with breaded chicken and pulled pork and chips and coleslaw and corn and onion rings. It was silly, really. We enjoyed all of our food very much. I mean, it’s a tex-mex chain. You don’t come here thinking you’re going to be transported to some authentic shack in southern Texas, but for what it is, it’s nice. My tacos were hard shelled but small — appropriate for a starter. I only managed my 3 little tacos(like the size of the ones at Wahaca) and 2 of my jalapeño poppers(which are really the best ones I’ve had, served with a delicious chili jam). Husband liked all his food and I didn’t try any of it, except for an onion ring — which was also surprisingly tasty, with some spicing in the batter. Throughout the whole visit we were well looked after by our friendly and efficient waitress. For our meals and sodas — more than we could eat — we spent around £30. So sure, not cheap, but for a London chain restaurant, as expected. Despite what I thought before we went, I think we’ll be back on occasion!
