Love it.
Beamed ceilings and open brick walls.
Excellent quality food with a little twist to take it up a notch. We had mussels which are the classic dish with a hint of chilli which just made them even more delicious. You have to have steak because it is just so good and they adorn it with sumptuous sauces.
Book a table so you can sit down stairs.

While in Wakefield visiting friends, I was treated to a lovely meal at this eatery.
Not very veggie friendly and lives up to its name, this place serves some delightful steaks and cuts of meat. I had a 10oz rump steak with chips, onion rings and salad with peppercorn sauce. I have to say, this is one of my new favourite haunts and I will be returning.
This place would have got 5 stars if it wasn’t for its noisy surroundings. The interior had hard floors, high ceilings and not many soft furnishings so it was pretty load with everyone talking over each other. Apart from the noise, I can’t fault this place.

This place has been going a long time, but it’s only recently I got around to paying my first visit. I’m not sure why as this is head and shoulders the best place to eat in Wakefield (admittedly that’s not a very high bar).
It’s not fancy or surprising food, but what they do deliver is good honest British food, cooked well and with decent hits of flavour. The place is deservedly popular (expect to have to book) and the staff seem to maintain a great level of friendly service.
I tend to avoid steaks since so many otherwise good restaurants just cannot cook them, but my rib-​eye came out medium-​rare as requested, and was very good along with the blue cheese sauce and decent chips. The portions are Yorkshire-​sized so I could barely fit in a dessert, but the lemon tart I had was just the right size & delicious.

Superb food! A three course meal with wine and beer for £50 between two people…
The steak was honestly the greatest steak that I’ve ever been lucky enough to eat!
Can’t wait to go back!

Not a bad place but not as nice as it looks from the outside — the chairs that look solid and leathery and comfortable are actually just very hard normal chairs with a bit of cloth round them. It is quite expensive too, although they do sometimes have offers on, such as two courses for a set price before a certain time. I was quite impressed with the choice though — it wasn’t all steak, which was what I was expecting — they also do chicken, and were serving fish when we went. They also do cocktails, and they were really good!

While it not cheap (but not really expensive) this is a great place for a meal out. The staff are helpful and friendly and the food wonderful. My dining companions loved the steak and other meats. As a vegetarian the choice was limited but the waitress went to the chef to ask what he could do and came back with a long list of alternatives. Food was great (and has been on subsequent visits). Entrance is round the back. This place is well worth a visit.

Found Cowshed a few years ago and since it has been THE great place for the start of a night out with friends for a celebration. Also a good place for a romantic dinner. A bit on the pricey side, with everything priced a la carte, but well worth it. I found a great thing to do with — wait for it — broccoli, here! The atmos is great, although sometimes a little chilly. It is cozy and the staff are friendly. Although the last time i went and had a glass of red wine that came to the table cold then again, heard recently that chilled red is the new black not convinced Anyway, I digress BEAUTIFUL steak, non-​steak options too, sinful desserts, and trendy veg — a great restaurant! And even if it is a bit de classe to have chips at such a nice restaurant, they are almost a must with a good steadk, they do ‘em and they are scrummy!
